This is going to depend on the individual person (that persons gender, height, weight, physical condition), and the type of "interval training".

The Journal of Sports Sciences calculates the calorie expenditure for women: Calories = [(0.074 x Age) + (0.4472 x Heart Rate) -- (0.05741 x Weight) -- 20.4022] x Time / 4.184.



Men use the following equation: Calories = [(0.2017 x Age) + (0.6309 x Heart Rate) -- (0.09036 x Weight) -- 55.0969] x Time / 4.184.

Smile Recognizing that any method of finding out how many calories you burned that doesn't involve actually monitoring *your* body is an estimate, I usually calculate calories burned during, say, intervals of walking/running by inputting the total amount of time I spent running and the total amount of time I spent walking separately. Thanks to "afterburn" and related effects (such as the fact that I'm not really "walking" for calorie purposes when I'm still recovering from a run), I know that I actually burn a little more than that total, but again -- it's all estimation anyway. Smile

They're right, totally depends on your body and what you're doing. Curves has a pretty great way of tracking what YOU are burning during your half hour workout there. I normally burned 400+ calories in the 30 minutes. I've gottn up to 500 a time or two as well. Not too shabby! May want to give it a try...
