Hello, Phine. I will try to explain using myself as an example. I hope I am clear and don't confuse you more.

My RDI (according to fs) is 2000 cal/day. That means I need 2000 cal a day to maintain my weight. To lose 1 lb. a week I need to have net calories of 1500/day.

On the calendar there is food cal (intake), exercise cal (what I burn), and net cal (what I have left over for my body to use).

On Sept 5th my calendar looked like this:
food cal. exercise cal. net cal.
1562 3627 2065

Net cal. are exercise minus food. Even though I only ate 1562 cal that day I did not lose weight because my net cal. were over 2000. To lose I would need my net cal. to be about 1500.

I'm not sure about that downward green arrow but I think it means I burned more than I took in.

I hope I explained this right and that it's understandable.
