Hello fellow Fat Smashers,

I just started the "diet" on Thursday with my husband and we are still going strong as of day four Shock I'd love to hear what the general consensus says about some menu items allowed/not allowed in Phases I & II.

Are nuts allowed in Phase II?

Is peanut butter allowed in Phase II (if not when)?

Are turkey bacon or sausage allowed in Phase II?

What about condiments (mayo, ketchup, honey, etc) are they allowed in Phase I and/or Phase II?

Hi Lovely,

I haven't read anywhere that nuts aren't allowed in Phase II but I would probably add them in at Phase III when you can start having whole wheat pastas and breads. You would also introduce peanut butter and mayo in phase III.

As far as turkey bacon and sausage goes, I think the plan encourages lean meats at Phase II. So turkey bacon sounds like a sensible choice but not sure about sausage.

Here's a brief list of what's allowed in Phase I. Hope it helps!
Fruit in any quantity
-Veggies in any quantity except:
-No white potatoes
-No avocados
-Protein sources:
-Chickpeas
-Beans
-Tofu
-Lentils
-Brown rice, two cups of cooked rice per day
-Skim milk, two cups per day
-Water
-Oatmeal, one cup per day
-Herbs and spices
-Low fat yogurt, 6 oz., two times per day
-Egg whites, Four cups per day
-Herbal tea, two cups per day
-Low fat dressing, No more than three tablespoons per salad
-Low fat virgin olive oil, one or two teaspoons if grilling veggies
