Crying or Very sad today is week two and no weight loss, I actually gained a pound.WHY? I feel as if I have been making some good choices. It's hard to let go all of my old habits but I feel like I have been doing well. I can say it does feel as if I have lost inches.

Are you logging all your meals? Are you measuring/weighing your portions instead of estimating? You have to be 100% honest with yourself. If you are doing the above, then look at what you are eating. Get rid of the pizza and other junk and make healthier food choices. Start moving more so that you are burning more calories. If you just started and you did not lose weight in the first two weeks, then you are eating more than you are burning. It is that simple.

I looked at your diet log. You are starving yourself. Is that really all you are eating? your body is hanging on to the fat because it is starving. Please be careful. You could make yourself very sick eating this calorie level.
Please be careful! (hugs)

I think low carb is a good thing to try. I have had realsuccess with it. Then Maybe you are retaining fluid, you might try cutting down on your salt intake.

For god sake go down the Low Carb route! Razz

Read "Why We Get Fat" by Tabues and quit listening to people that think you are fat because of a personal defect.

Don't feel guilty about exercise either. Exercise is for fitness but you don't have to exercise to lose weight. Add it when you feel comfortable doing so. I lost 75 pounds with LC without exercise.

Read "Wheat Belly" by Dr. Davis and try giving up wheat.

Read "The Art & Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Drs. Phinney and Volek and learn why there is no such thing as an 'essential' carbohydrate.

You can lose your weight and keep it off if you educate yourself about LC and your metabolism. Simple as that.

I'm with you...so many cutting out carbs, meat..and so on. All those things our body needs to function and maintain health and stability as you stated. I count calories and workout 2-3 times a week and walk a whole lot, I also cut back on my sweets because I have a sweet tooth and I must say it's going well and I don't really crave it like I use to. We can loss weight without starving our bodies of nutrition so, remember that's the main key.

Please, Please don't beat yourself up if you can't do aerobics and such remember walking helps loose weight too. Also, find your food weakness and maybe have once a week versus every day or other day. You're going to shed those lbs. so be proud of your improvements/accomplishments and proceed from there.Wink

Don't beat yourself up over not losing the weight. If you feel like you are losing inches, than you may be. A tape measure will help. With a knee injury walking in the pool or swimming is good exercise.

Plateaus haven't been mentioned yet. If you are new to dieting you should expect them. They are short periods of time in which nothing happens. No weight loss, or possibly slight gain. We all go thru them, usually several times, from a couple of days, up to a week or more. I just ignore them and push thru. Don't change anything. As others have suggested, double check you calorie intake and get your recommended daily intake (RDI) correct. When the plateau ends you will be rewarded (if you have stuck to your plan) with a slightly higher weight loss than expected. Google diet plateaus to find out more, I am not an expert.

Think of your body compared to a furnace.... if you don't put fuel in it, it doesn't turn on and therefore doesn't burn! you must eat, but good nutritious food and you will lose!

Listen, everyone on this site is going to say, "DO WHAT I'M DOING... IT'S WORKING FOR ME?!" Some people will tell you to eat low carb, and some will say that carbs are great for you. People will quote Atkins and other nonsense for low carb, and others will quote people like Dr. T. Colin Campbell who believes that our diets should be 80-90% carbs on a whole foods, plant-based diet. The simple answer is this: Your body needs carbs, protein, and fat. Any diet that restricts a food group is not good for you. I don't know how old you are, so I don't know if you remember all of the low fat crazes that have raged... Now, we know that all of that stuff was garbage. Eat a well balanced diet. Exercise. If you are honest with yourself and stay on track, you will lose weight. As others have said, it is about creating a calorie deficit. No more, no less.

Do the eating plan that feels right for you and stick with it. I would not recommend a low carb regimen because eventually you will have to learn to add good carbs back into your diet anyway. I think the balance of protein to carbs and fats is an important consideraton, and you do have to consider caloric intake. Your body needs the proper balance of protein to carbs and a small aount of fat. Personally I recommend the Zone where you would be balancing food blocks or portions in 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. Take into account there will be fluctuations in body weight due to changes such as water retention. The heavier you are the greater the fluctuations. Follow your nutrition plan faithfully. Drink lots of water. If you don't drink enough water your metabolism won't function properly and you won't be able to flush the fat. Weigh yourself only once per month or every two months and just focus on eating right.
Stay strong, stay focused.

Start weight 259 pounds. Ultimate goal: 120 pounds.
