1. I got the Android app.
2. I signed up with it.
3. I entered food data.
4. I went to the web site.
5. The data wasn't there.
6. I installed the iPad app.
7. The data wasn't there either.
8. I used the Sync menu option in the Android app several times.
9. The data still wasn't there.
10. I reentered my username and password on the sync screen (totally unnecessary, since I already did that when I signed up!).
11. It said the sync was successful!
12. The data I entered is not on the web site.
13. The data I entered is no longer on my phone.
14. I am frustrated and angry because I wasted my time entering all that data.

Also:

1. I entered data on the Food Diary on my phone.
2. I switched to My Summary.
3. The data disappears and says 0%, 0 calories, etc.
4. I switch back to Food Diary, and the data is there.
5. I switch back to My Summary, and the data is gone.

So now I wonder if I should bother using FatSecret anymore. LiveStrong doesn't have a great UI or food database, but it does actually work.

I have through my three years on Fatsecret never had an issue with the android app. Not on any of the three android phones or the android tablet I have owned through that time.

I can enter my stuff on the phone, or on the website and it syncs perfectly. Every time.

I'm pretty sure the issue is not the app. Smile

Whether you wanna stay or not, that's entirely up to you. Regardless, good luck on your journey.

I went from morbidly obese to being the owner of TABDIG - a weight loss coaching service that helps people worldwide losing weight. It's been an amazing journey. From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, living healthy and helping people to reach the very same goals. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier! If you feel that you need help losing weight, don't hesitate to send me an inbox message.

Thanks for your reply, but the app does have major bugs, which I outlined in detail, viz:

1. When synced for the first time, it erases data already entered on the device, instead of actually syncing it to the web site.

2. Before sync is setup correctly, the Food Diary data does not show up in My Summary.

1. I have synced SO MANY times. I have NEVER lost my data. This is NOT an app flaw. I often use custom ROMS on my phones, and re-install my data more or less constantly. I have never lost anything from FatSecret. Nothing whatsoever.
Rough estimate, I probably have had a sync per month for years. Never an issue.

2. Never had his issue, as sync has already worked, and thus updated My Summary.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I'm with Keld, I've never had any issues with the apps, and I use an android app on my HTC Evo, the app on my iPad, and the computer version on my Macbook. They have all synced flawlessly every time I use them.

If you personally are having an issue with the apps or your account, I suggest you use the "contact" link on the bottom of the page to contact FS directly, but don't assume that the apps are "untested and broken."

I had that problem when I first started a week ago, but after I re-entered my meals, everything has been fine. Looking at comments in the app ratings section in the Google store, it seems a lot of folks have this problem at first.

I did contact the folks at FS, and they said they would look into it, but they did not act like they were aware that a lot of folks were complaining. Maybe they need more people to contact them. I've moved on to different problems: anyone know how to get the app to save more than one meal?

I disagree...it IS a problem with the app. The app worked great for years until an update in November 2012. If you read through the comments on the app store, you'll see that it was then that the avalanche of negative comments started. Many, many people have had problems with the latest version. They have refused to address the issue or respond to emails.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. People who didn't download the update have no issues, but many of those who did update (like me) have had it lose data, fail to sync, force close, freeze, etc.

The app IS broken and untested. There are many complaints attesting to this. All I can suggest is adding your voice to the many already complaining.

Is there a way to 'un'-update? Maybe that's why I haven't had any problems, I don't think I've updated my app since I downloaded it a couple years ago...
