hey guys! i've been strolling around the site here, and it sort of freaked me out that so many people are completely lost and angry (?!) about weight watchers points being gone. i remember even my brother telling me the only reason he was on here was so he didn't have to pay to use weight watchers. you can't blame WW, they have copyright law on their side. i'm sure it's a great plan and all, i've heard it's worked for many folk, but i couldn't eat a bunch of pre-packaged frozen crap the rest of my life. and if i'm going to spend that kind of money on food, i'm not paying for a certain logo to be on a frozen box. i'd rather spend the extra on organics.

but hey, that's just me. i've been reading the mediterranean diet, and i love that type of food anyway, so i'm happy. and it isn't a diet. it's just a different way of eating that has worked for hundreds of generations. it's good book, and i'm also reading integrative nutrition as well. with these two books, i'm finally sorting things out and know how i need to just eat better. and it's not crazy calorie counting, or tracking points, or anything. when i finally understand what and how much is good for me, i seem to instinctively know what and how much to eat.

i'm not going to deprive myself for a year or so to lose weight, then try to modify a 'diet' or find a new one to maintain my weight. blecch. and it's too restrictive, just using one diet. what if you go to a cookout and your 'diet' won't allow any of the food there? it's stuff like that that turns me away from diets. and i can't tell you any long-term success stories from anyone i know with any diet they have tried. but the folks i know who have done it (like another of my brothers, who has lost over 100lbs), have done so by eating more fruits and veggies, only poultry and fish, no soda, and exercise every day. THAT is what works. and that's what i plan to do....

Awesome! I couldn't agree more. It really works and it doesn't have to be punishment. The way I eat now is much more pleasurable than the way I ate to gain the weight Smile

Great attitude 53&6! Nice to hear something positive.

I agree with you. My Doc said it was time to put me on pills for cholesterol & I said no way. I was already trying to get off of the thyroid & BP meds! (Hadn't told him yet) So I started researching too & came up with the Med diet. It's great food! Also upped the fiber & just doing that makes you feel full. He gave me till the end of summer, boy is he going to be surprised!

i'm with you on the fiber! i went to a gastroenterologist after my family doc referred me there for ibs. with all the crap (no pun intended!) they wanted me to do and to take, i decided that i would just eat more fiber and see if that helped. it did, and i'm pretty sure the ibs is just there from being overweight and having poor eating habits (a side effect from working two jobs). but no more excuses! and the cool thing about the med diet is that if you avoid processed foods, you're automatically going to eat wholesome, healthy food. it's like a common-sense-reset-button for your body and brain! i dig.
