Those conclusions on the Swedish study look to be BS.
- Women completed tracking questionaires but did not follow any prescribed diet.
- Another look at data indicates they actually consumed a high-fat, high-carb diet (opposite of Atkins)

learn to make healthy choices, mostly plants, some meat, not too much, eat 6 - 8 times a day, healthy fats included...The reason i ended up giving up on it for good was when my moms cardiologist said she was going to kill herself if she didnt stop with Atkins diet!....this persons doctor is right, Atkins himself had a massively enlarged heart and was grossly overweight. they want to sell books. You want to be healthy. Its just about choices.

Well said and exactly the common sense approach needed in a world of dietary nonsense apart from eating 6-8 Times a day which is not necessary

For the record I am not on a DIET never have been never will be.

I have made some adjustments to my eating habits over time and increased my movement through exercise and general day to day activity, it's a LIFESTYLE change that is easy to maintain not a temporary DIET
Sure I eat plenty of proteins, meat, eggs fish and milk but also a goodly amount of healthy carbs such as green and colorful veg, sweet potato and fruit which have always been abundant in nature.

I don't eat much of apart from a few treats, bread, pasta, grains, sugar, or any highly processed foods

As I have stated NO ward controlled study has EVER found in favour of a low carb diet over a
mixed diet when the calories are the same.

And Atkins died a bloated mess .....no thanks

i also totally agree with this approach and believe restrictive diets are self defeating. In the end it is always a subjective issue and the best "diet" is the one you can follow long term.

Atkins as well as all low carb or no carb diets for most people are impossible to follow for life, but there are a few who manage and find them ok, than that's great for them but it is a very small minority and since from a fat loss point of view there is no advantage whatsoever in following a low carb diet then I would not suggest it to anybody.

Diet? Nit picking over the English dictionary again. Its just a word that has been taken up and related to weight loss. Diet is just the compposition of food stuffs consumed eg your 5 a day into your diet. If you go for slimfast as part of your intake then that's part of your diet as much as macro nutrients is someone else's diet. Lets not get hung up on words like diet and lifestyle

How many people do we know who say I'm going on a DIET as if it is a temporary thing they have to do.
So to use it in its commonly used term on a Weight Loss site makes perfect sense, in fact one of the main reasons people fail to lose weight and keep it off is because after the DIET is over they slip back into bad habits and put it all on again.

Lifestyle on the other hand incorporates a sustainable DIET but also other factors like exercise and is the only way to achieve sustainable change in the long term and so is markedly different than just going on a DIET!

You didn't mention EXERCISE! in your pointless post which is major difference between DIET and LIFESTYLE also one could mention things like SLEEP and reducing stress which are all factors other than
Food or DIET which differentiates just what we eat to a change in LIFESTYLE.

I know you have to comment on all I say for no apparent reason but at least try and stick to the facts...

This was very interesting - thank you for the link. I'm always hovering around the idea of atkins because of my high blood sugar and the memory of my Grandmother and her issues with her own diabetes - I have her body (extended abdomen though skinny legs). It is so interesting to learn of new ways each body responds differently to foods, even in moderation, in our quest to find the healthy balance.


I'm not losing WEIGHT. I'm converting FAT to MUSCLE to be healthier.

This is nothing but a complete lie. Atkins was slender his adult life during which he ran his clinic. He died a month following a head injury from a fall on ice.

My husband went the Dr after being on Atkins for 3mo back in the 80's and the Dr immediately sent him for blood work, because of how "BAD" the Atkins diet was for the heart. Low and behold the Dr called to tell him not only had he lost weight but his blood work was the best it had ever been!!! In today's world there are many Dr's now prescribing the Atkins diet

I say if it works for you ... go for it .... especially those with blood sugar issues.
