I have steel-cut oatmeal for breakfast quite often (especially with the freeze in the northeast right now!) & have been adding almonds to increase the protein in it. Does anyone add anything else to their oatmeal to increase the protein in it? Has anyone ever added protein powder to oatmeal?

No but that sounds like a great idea.

You could also add an egg. Google cranberry oatmeal with egg for a recipe

I started eating oatmeal when it started getting cold in November and was surprised to see that I started loosing weight. I had been stuck at the same weight for so long I couldn't believe it. Around Christmas I started snacking on nuts instead of granola. Even though the calories are higher I lost another pound! I'm nut sure if it was the oatmeal and nuts or because I started logging everything on this website that has been so helpful but it can't hurt to try it and see what happens. Gook Luck

I love walnuts in my oatmeal - kind of like a warm crunchy oatmeal cookie. Now I know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow!

I add protein powder to oatmeal and it's great! I have a vanilla and it gives it a good sweet flavor, or I'll use strawberry for something a little different. Sometimes I use PB2 peanut butter powder and that's not a huge amount of protein, but it does give some flavor to the oatmeal. Nuts are good too or adding fruit.

How could I forget? I also used to add cheese and/or sausage meat.

If the reintro of dairy goes ok next week you could try Greek yogurt. I layer it on top of the oatmeal and it gives (me) a nice mix of temperatures.

I have read that adding protein powder to anything WARM, causes the proteinto deteriorate which is why we don't make hot cocoa with chocolate protein powder. I think I will try the egg whites idea!

Try adding Chia Seeds! It will add not only protein, but also calcium, antioxidents, fiber and healthy omega fats.
