I decided I needed to measure myself finally after following abs for 3 weeks. I am feeling a little defeated. My waist always is larger than it should be. I wear a size 10, but my waist measurement says it's a 14-16 which is not at all the case. I would swim in that. But that is my problem area and always has been and it is my hardest area. Does anyone else have this problem where your measurements tell you that you are bigger in one spot than the others? I have been eating so well and working out so hard for 3 weeks now and although I feel really good, I am not seeing the scale go down as I'd like. I really feel my metabolism has almost come to a hault as I hit 35 this year. If I eat well over the weekend I should officially be at 3 lbs down in 3 weeks. Not great, but progress.

On the other hand, we have so much to be thankful for and a healthy functioning body is one of those things. I am greatful for this body and the things I can do because of it, but this is frustrating. Any thoughts or similar experiences? Rachel

sizes differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. I have a pair of size 6 jeans that fit great, and a size 10 that's tight. Don't go by that. Measure in inches around your upper thigh (where it's biggest), your hips and your true waist (bellybutton level). Tomorrow is my weekly measuring day. I've stopped going by the scales and rely more on that. Plus I feel better. I also bought a Playstation "Game" that gives me weekly physical challenges and compares to previous ones so I can see where I'm improving and where I need to work. You should try that if you have a Playstation, it's called Yourself!Fitness. It's been a great motivator to work out more.

I measured my waist where it goes in and went with that one. If I go more down, by my bellybutton level, it is even worse news and would make me bigger in sizes like in probably a size 16-18 according to that. I know sizes vary, but I don't understand the discrepancy why my measurements (waist only) are so much bigger than the actual size I wear. The biggest size in my closet is a 12. I am frustrated!!!

It is also frustrating to know how fast it goes on but how long it takes to come off. I was down to 144 this summer, size 8-10. Then b/w the fall and holidays it crept on and I reached my heaviest weight ever (except for post pregnancies) after Christmas! I put on 4 lbs in about a weeks' time and this is the stubborn stuff that I am trying to get off. But I guess I have to burn 3500 or so additonal calories to get the one pound off. It stinks! One good thing though, I did add an extra walk in on the treadmill today in addtion to my other 3 work outs at the gym this week. Now I feel like going out for Chinese. See how I am?!

Laughing
Same here. Smile don't feel bad though. It takes time, lots of will power and the ability to change almost everything about eating habits that have been ingrained since childhood... I'm still not even close to any of those..

Don't feel defeated about what the measurements say - you know what size you really wear!

I've always been pear-shaped myself - even my I was at my slimest (120 lbs just after having acute kidney failure). This means I've always had to wear clothes 1-2 sizes bigger on my bottom half - and they're all different sizes depending on the manufacturer!

Just be happy that you're losing weight, but don't get too hung up on any of the numbers! Smile

Thanks for your encouragement ladies. I have realized how alike we all are and how we beat ourselves up over our weight. I will keep pressing on with you guys.
Lucybell, congrats on your significant weight loss! It seems you have lost quite a bit since this summer? You must be very dedicated to sticking with a good plan.
By the way, I did not go out for Chinese tonight and made a healthy soup instead.

Way to go! I love Chinese too. It's been one of the hardest cravings to ignore.

Thank you! Yep - I've been on the (UK) Slim Fast plan for 6.5 months now, so 47 lb is reasonable progress. I have had the odd slip up along the way, but I don't beat myself up if I have a bad day, because I'm in it for the long haul this time. Smile

Well done on avoiding the Chinese!

Very Happy
