I'm a big runner - marathons, 1/2 maras, etc. I only know cardio exercises. I hate the weight room. Most of the exercise plans in Abs Diet seem to emphasize weights and only lightly touch on cardio. Can this work for me if I'm mainly going to run??

I'm a runner too - every other day (iliotibial band flares up otherwise). The longest I've done is a half, but I typically do a long run every weekend of 6-9 miles.

The editor of men's health mag who I believe developed this diet runs every day, or so he says. I think the key is to work on muscle development in addition to the cardio. Are you competitive? If you gained a few pounds of muscle in your upper body would it throw off your pace? My problem always is trying to run on tree-trunk feeling legs after having lifted heavy weights with legs. I'm very strong - so I lift relatively heavy weight (for a girl! LOL) and it's tough to rebound and do intervals after that.

I'm planning to incorporate more short, higher speed, interval running and lay off the long and tempo runs for six weeks, and substitute a bit more weight training. Not sure what your race calendar will allow but I'm not doing another half until the fall.
