I finally got to do something freaking nice! I go to a community college and the semester started about 2 weeks ago. Our school unfortunately requires a lot of books that are made by them which means they are very expensive and you can't buy them elsewhere. I was in the school bookstore waiting in line angry that I was about to pay almost $200 for one book. The girl ahead of me went to pay for her book and the clerk told her it would be $155 not including tax. She obviously wasn't expecting that as I saw a wave of disappointment wash over her face.

I realized I had the book she needed and told her I'd sell it to her for $20. She said she didn't have any cash and had to go to the class she needed it for in 20 minutes. I jumped in my car and raced home to get the book and I gave it to her for free. After that, the amount I paid for my book didn't matter because it was so awesome she got hers for free. I really felt like I was sticking it to that darn bookstore!

That was a great thing you did for her; we need more kids like you around here!

A few years back, a single mom who was going to community college did pretty much the same thing, and at the end of the semester, the students she had given her books to returned them and offered up more to loan out. Now, that single mom has started a college library called Barb's Books. Anyone going to school can "borrow" whatever books they need for the term/year as they return them & donate when they can. It's a fabulous program that has saved my butt! By spreading the word, you could easily get something similar started.

Either way, you're awesome for helping out a stranger. Society needs more people like you.
If you can spend years beating yourself up mentally and remain standing, you can HANDLE a few muscle cramps and cravings. A little pain has NOTHING on feeling insecure. Remember that next time you wanna quit. You can do this!

I went from morbidly obese to being the owner of TABDIG - a weight loss coaching service that helps people worldwide losing weight. It's been an amazing journey. From October 4th 2010 to April 3rd 2012 I lost half my body weight - 80 kilos/170 lbs. Since then, I have had two cosmetic surgeries to remove excess skin. I have now quadrupled my strength, gained several kilos in muscle mass, and today I focus on building muscle, optimizing my diet, living healthy and helping people to reach the very same goals. I am stronger, healthier, thinner, happier! If you feel that you need help losing weight, don't hesitate to send me an inbox message.

LOL - do the FN things always have to be for the greater good to qualify? The other day, when we had icy weather, a customer with his wife & 3 small children came in the store and after 'slamming' my door shut when they left, ( he was rude and I didn't give him the answer he wanted) their big double cab truck was stuck at the curb because of the ice (our streets dip into the curbs - go figure city planning ).

I took two carpet runners from my store to put under his rear truck wheels. At first he argued (dumb old woman, that won't work) but it did, and they were able to back out.

So yes, I was nice to muster the kindness to help someone even after they were rude to me twice.

On the other hand, I knew they'd bring those kids back in the store if they stayed stuck and had to call a tow truck. Our store isn't really set up for 3 young children under 8 years old who want to run, scream and touch everything. So my FN thing was probably more for me than them.

Judges ruling?

LOL, Bella, sometimes we help OURSELVES by being nice to others. Still, not matter the purpose of the action, it was nice of you to help 'em out. Smile

Just remembered this: I used to live in Houston, TX. Summers are, as most of you are aware of, hotter than hell.

One hot summer day, I went to a little store in a Chinese are. In the store was a little lady behind the counter, and my wife and I would often have a little chat with her. She's always have her little boy playing in the back room.

This particular day we come to the store, and it is sooooo hot in there. They air conditioner broke, and she was waiting for her husband to come fix it, but it would be hours before he could. Her and her boy were so hot, and she wasn't able to leave the store as she was the only one there to take care of customers.

I have no idea how to fix air conditioners so I did the next best thing. I went a little further down the road and bought her ice, water and a sixpack of REALLY cold sodas, for them to cool off on.

She was so grateful, she was almost crying.

The payoff? She told a little lady at an excellent little Chinese restaurant right around the corner, and we got the "friend's discount" there whenever we went. One of our favorite places to eat after that. Smile

F'kin nice!

Good for you Keld. We have hotter than heck summers here too so Ihave keep bottled water in my store (and I'm not a grocer) and give it to customers and delivery people free. Some are grateful some are greedy - I figure in the end it all balances out and hope those grateful find a way to pay it forward too (although I don't pass out the water with that request).
I also have what I call a 'soft touch' budget for hard luck stories that come in - that's MH's label for when I give directly to people who really seem in need.

Many years ago when I had 3 under 5s we were real short of money, I took all the kids shopping, which was a trek involving a long walk, a boat and a very steep hill. I got the bare basics and got to the checkout, after my shopping had all been rung up I didn't have enough money to pay for it, I was only short by a very small amount. The checkout girl stood up and shouted the full length of the store to the supervisor " lady hasn't got enough money" I have never been sohumiliated in my entire life. Ever since if I see someone in that situation I pay the little bit extra myself and say to them to do the same some day for someone else. I believe in the end it will go full circle and come back to me one day when I need it. I hope that someone else is saved that feeling I had that day, I always say anyone can come out and not bring enough money with them,. No one has taken offense so far either.

Only read this post today, but inspired none the less out here in South Africa to do something similar. I think we are all so caught up in our own lives that we so easily forget how little it can take sometimes to make a significant difference in someone elses. Thank you for the inspiration Smile
