If you are very active, you will need more protein than a sedentary person to maintain your muscle mass, repair after workouts, and build more. Both fats and carbs should be a source of energy. Try to avoid empty calories while you are losing weight and exercising.

Hi Ines! What sport are you looking to compete in?

If it's running events, like the 5K or marathons, then I'd be happy to trade ideas. I've been researching that for awhile.

But if its something like power-lifting or baseball, perhaps someone else could give you better advice.

Good luck! Smile

I suppose swimming is like running in that they are both are great for losing weight.

My exercise approach is to run 4 time a week, then do a basic leg exercise at the gym once a week. For example: rowing.

My diet approach is to burn ~500-1000 calories a day more than I consume. Not hard if one is running/swimming regularly.

Also, as a runner I need to lift weights to stop my body from burning muscle. But I would guess swimmers don't have to worry as much about that.
