I'm pretty sure this has been done, but I thought I'd start it anew. As the subject states, please tell a little about yourself: where you're from, what you do, hobbies, etc. I'll start it off.

My name is Tim and I am a 21-yr veteran in the USAF, set to retire in 2016 after 24 yrs of service. I have no idea what I want to do after the military; just hope that my soon-to-have degrees will be enough to comfortably provide for my wife and I. The mentioned degrees are a Bachelors of Science in Aeronautics, which will be finished early next year; and a Master's in Logistics and Life Cycle Management, which I will begin as soon as I am done with the Bachelor's.

I am currently stationed at Langley AFB, Va. I have two sons: a 20-yr old in California (my home state) and soon-to-be 19-yr old who lives at home with us.

My military career has given me the opportunity to see parts of the world I never would have seen as a civilian: seven consecutive years in England, two one-yr assignments to South Korea, a few trips downrange (deployments), and several shorter trips to various European countries. It's been a fun ride: wouldn't trade it for the world.

Most of my time is spent at work, taking college classes, working around the house, or exercising. When I do get some "me-time," I enjoy a round of golf...not saying I'm any good at golf, I just enjoy playing.

Anyway, that's me, in a nutshell. Look forward to getting to know the rest of you.

I am very pleased to meet you,Tim. We often don't take the time to thank our servicemen so I want to take the time now to thank you for your service and dedication to serving this great nation of ours. Thank you, Tim!!!

I am a 60 years old. I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. I live near a smaller city about 45 miles North and East of LaCrosse. My roots are in the country, so I have a strong connection with Nature.I attended college majoring in Art Education, but dropped out. I have been working in a manufacturing facility for almost 42 years. I am a Plant Inspector and work in the Quality Assurance Lab.

I have 1 son 37, 1 daughter 29, and 1 granchild 7, 1 cat 16, a miniature American Eskimo dog 3, and last but not least a wonderful husband of 34 years. Life keeps me pretty busy as I help take care of my granson. Right now getting my health back is my number one personal priority so my main focus is there.I feel strongly that Obesity is a disease, and there is alot of psychological baggage that goes with being extremely heavy.I believe that weight loss success is 90 % mindset and 10 % diet and exercise. Along with holding myself accountable alot of "work " needs to be done on "ME" the person.

I love Iron Maiden & have traveled a few times to see them perform. My musical taste is eclectic: BobMarley, Pink Floyd, Loreena McKinnett, Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, Classical. Also I love to read, and garden. We used to go camping alot, I love camping, and hiking. In the future I want to travel more.We were fortunate to be able to fly out to Seattle last year, taking in Puget Sound, and Mount Rainier.

My goals for weight loss is to eventually reach 120 to 135 pounds but my goal in the short term is to drop from my current weight of 220( start weight :259) pounds to 170.

I didn't mention our other 4 children: a 13-yr old cat, a 4-yr old English Springer we brought back from England, a 1-yr old Beagle-Shepard mix rescue, and a 11-wk old kitten my wife brought home from the local 7-11 parking lot. I like some of your taste in music as I'm a Maiden, Amon Amarth, and anything else I can bang my head to, even had the opportunity to meet Sevendust a couple months ago.

Great thread,

I'm Laura, 34 year old living in Auckland New Zealand. It is the middle of winter here so getting up out of bed to exercise is a challenge. I work for one of the main banks in NZ and have just adopted a rescue cat from the local shelter.

I love going to the movies, travelling, hanging out with friends and getting back to nature and going on some amazing hikes around Auckland.

Wow I have kinda gotten used to only talking about loosing weight either with friends or online. this is a nice change...

I joined a while ago but have been of on a binge but that's how it always is for me, i do ok for a while and then feel like a big loser and medicate myself with a pizza and away i go again. I sometimes wish i was a drug addict or something different cause at least people wouldn't make fun of me then about my problem. I see all the different diets and stuff on here and i wished it was a bit more simpler.

I had the opportunity to visit Tampa in 1998...might be one of the best TDYs I've ever had. New Zealand is a place I would really love to visit. Welcome, everyone!

Hi everyone. I live in Sarasota, Florida, about 50 miles south of Tampa. I am married and have a 20 year old daughter, who has had a rough go of it, which in turn has effected me of course. We are doing our best to make it through the rough times and are thankful for the good ones.
I haven't paid much attention to myself until recently when I noticed I wasn't feeling so great and looked in the mirror and REALLY saw myself. After some blood work and testing it is found that I have high blood pressure. (thank god that's all it was!) The doctor told me if I lost some weight, I might be able to stop taking the pills. I hate medicine, so for me that's a no brainer. BUT...can I???
I quit smoking two years ago (YAY ME!)and I guess between that, me not careing about myself and getting laid off for a few months, I blew up like a balloon. I just joined the gym and am attempting a low carb diet. Every time I have tried in the past I have failed, but that was before I quit smoking. So...I have decided if I can quit smoking, I CAN DO ANYTHING! Wish me luck!

I wish all of you luck too on your journey Smile If I can EVER help any of you, please don't hesitate to get in touch! We are all in this together!!

Much love,

I feel like I am in AA, LOL

Hello my name is Katy...

Group: "Hi Katy"

Just Kidding!

My name is Katy, I live in New Mexico (Yes, it is part of the USA.)

My husband and I just joined FatSecret today in the hopes of becoming the smaller versions of ourselves that we were when we met 10 years ago. We have been married for 8 years and have 2 4-legged children, Sinclaire and Buddy.

I had a kidney disease when I was 9 which required high doses of steriods so by the age of 11 I was tipping the scales at over 200 pounds. AS a result of the steriods I have cataracts, fractured (healed) vertibre, Gout AKA "The Devil" Evil or Very Mad , unable to have biological children and have always struggled with my weight due to the steroids and weight gain at such a young age.

It amazes me that when people look at me, they assume I look this way because I am lazy or stuff my face at every possible moment. In reality, I never finish a meal, am usually out-eaten by my "in-shape" friends, and buffets are a waste of money. Due to my medical history, it is more difficult for me to exercise without over-heating or nearly passing out. We are going to give it a shot though, I plan on going super slow to start.

We are hoping to get into shape so that we can feel better, live longer, and take the real vacations that we want!

Good to be part of a group!

Thank you!

Hi. I like this idea of getting to know everyone in one thread, rather than reading different profiles.

I'm Kristy, 43 years old, living in Long Beach, CA. I've been married 19 years, and have two kids, ages 14 and 11, and a cute little honey colored dog named "Li'l Rita". She basically runs our household and warms our hearts every day.

I work full time at an advertising agency and work with some great, brand name clients. It's a fun culture, even though every day my colleagues are getting younger and younger. Geez! Confused

We love to travel, and we also love Disney like CommaHolly. We just went on our 4th Disney cruise last month, and I can't count how many times I've been to Disneyland since I grew up here. My kids are very active in karate (both kids), dance (my daughter) and marching & jazz band (my son), so I'm usually pretty busy shuttling them around to lessons, rehearsals, competitions and shows.

I love walking, hiking, and now just this year I love just being active. I've enjoyed trying new activities like Zumba and Jazzercise recently, and I'm considering taking the adult tap class at my daughter's dance studio. I tapped when I was her age and have always wanted to dance again...maybe. Wink

I love to cook, mostly winging it. I hate following recipes most of the time. I love watching cooking shows and getting inspiration for flavor combinations and ingredients. I'm a podcast-aholic. Every morning and evening on my commute I listen to podcasts about weight loss, nutrition, healthy cooking, etc. I can't get enough information and it really helps me to keep focused on my goals.

I've been overweight my whole life, even as far back as 1st grade. I've tried losing weight many, many times but it never clicked. I'm so excited that I have come as far as I have in 7 months. I'm more of a tortoise than a hare when it comes to weight loss, but I'm fine with that. Right now I'm at a lower weight than I remember being in 20 years and it feels good. Smile

My wife is like that with recipes. The few times that she has actually followed the recipe, the meal wasn't as good as when she adds her own influences into the dish. Welcome!
