sitting on the floor

What takes more energy getting up from sitting on the floor, or getting up from sitting on a couch/chair?
I often sit on the floor and have no problem getting to a standing position. However it does take a few more movements so I was thinking it burned more energy! Am I mistaken with this way of thinking?

As far as physics goes, it takes more energy to rise up over a longer distance. But how much energy it takes will also be determined by how awkward you are getting up from the floor or out of a sofa.

What's the goal? I don't think over the course of a week/month/year you will see any additional weight loss by sitting on the floor instead of a chair. And, in the process, you might end up with some kind of other ailment if you're sitting awkwardly because it's not comfortable.

If you find it more comfortable, or it helps your posture, or you just like to, then go for it!

It is supposed to be quite challenging. But probably you should start with beginner exercises and build up to that.

But I think if you are going to use exercise as a tool - you need to push it a bit.
There are some good things to start with that are simple but good. I like the ball idea. Other thing that may be easy to get in while doing daily routine is squats. They are effective - if you give it some efforts. Lunges are good if you can do them. They are good to ease into if you are new to them or worried about your knees.

Its called a TURKISH GET UP and it is a very challenging exercise when done with weight

Can easily be done with a dumbbell to
