You're not adding food to your calendar, if you did, maybe we could see what might be going wrong.

If you've read the books and follow the rules things should be moving. I have an underactive thyroid and lose slower especially now that i'm in my 50's but you should've lost more if you're doing it right.

Start posting your food on a daily basis.

I too have a underactive thyroid. Are you taking medication? How many netcarbs? How many calories? How much fat?

For me I need to keep my calories between 1300-1500, I do better when fat is 60-70% of my calories and net carbs are 20.

Are you drinking alcohol? Are you drinking plenty of water?

Thanks for your replies, have only just got onto this website but alcohol roughly once fortnight only! Yes drink lots of water. Strictly phase 1 atkins so max 20carbs daily brekkie 1 egg with either sardines or bacon, egg salad and tuna for lunch with mayo, dinner strictly broccoli/cauli with protein, or spag bol. Completely cut out pasta, spuds, rice all my faves. Im also over 50 and need to lose about 6-7 kg

Have you increased the amount of good fat?
if you increase good fat, Grass fed butter or coconut oil, you will never feel hungry and you will loose weight. but fat does not do your health any good if you still consume sugar or lot of carbs. also cooking with only these two oils is far more healthy. vegetable oil is going to turn rancid when heated so don't heat any Omega 6 oil like olive oil. use olive oil cold for drizzling and salad dressing.

When your thyroid is under active weight loss is a huge battle. It can be done but you have to be patient and find what is going to work for you. Have you tried Nutritional Ketosis. It is High fat, moderate protein, low carb.
You can find info here. http://nkevolution.freeforums.net/

L tyrosine helps my thyroid and feel tons better when I take it.

all great advice - I too have an under active thyroid - I do find weight training helps me the best - although if you look at my numbers you will see a 20 lb gain over the last two years - kind of gave up - but now I am back to it - I will never be a barbie doll again - but I can sure be better than I am today

Thanks Clueless, Ill have a look at that website - thesa good luck with your weight loss, unfortunately I cant exercise much at the moment I broke my leg approx 3 months ago and needed surgery, back to walking and swimming now but it will take a while to heal completely, I put on weight whilst disabled but really thought doing strict atkins would work Sad very despondent.

that's what i thought, but she also says in the same line that she's completely cut out all pasta !

and if you eat pasta on Atkins especially on induction, you go back to day 1, and also alcohol, even if only once every fortnight , can cause you to not go into ketosis and burn fat for fuel.

Without seeing exactly what net carbs are being consumed on a daily basis it's hard to give advice or help.

I so understand this - last year in different accidents I broke my leg, my foot and my elbow - I gained 20 pounds - finally healed - on the positive side now that I am back in the gym my injuries feel better than ever before - speaking of which off to the gym I go! hang in there don't give up like I did

I've been on thyroid meds for 40 years, during that time I have been overweight up to 180 lbs and underweight down to 98 lbs.... I am down to the lowest dosage now basically from naturopathic help in feeding my pituitary gland which controls the thyroid.

There were many different outside factors into why i gained and why i lost but I never sat back and said, I have a bad thyroid so forget it. Not that i'm saying anyone here is doing that so don't throw tomatoes yet!

Eat lots of food from the sea, and seaweed , take spirulina, kelp, anything with natural iodine that feeds the thyroid.

Avoid nightshade veggies,(cabbage, brussel sprouts, etc) or if you eat them, they must be cooked at least 1 min. to kill the enzyme that fights thyroxin.

It may be a slower battle, but not impossible.

Well, then you're not following Atkins. If you had been entering the food in the calendar here you would see that one serving of spag bol is 41 net carbs, adding cauli and brocc adds another 7 net carbs so now you're at your daily limit if you're in phase 2 in just one meal.

jkmarker I would start inputting your food in this calendar and take a real look at what you're eating. Especially if you're not losing.

good luck.

When I say spag bol that is the meat sauce only, no pasta! Impossible for it to be 41 net carbs. My veg reokaces the pasta

ahhhh so it's not really spag bol, it's just bol ! big difference.

Your original post asked for help , but no one can really offer help till you post your food.

The Atkins sight has lists of acceptable foods for each phase but we don't know what phase you're in.

You need to be eating at least 20 net carbs of good carbs, veggies, but we don't know what you're eating so it's hard to help???/

You do not have to exercise to lose weight. Don't even beat yourself up about that. Exercise for health but weight loss is from your diet. You can do it!

jkmarker - check this out. You should be eating 20 net carbs a day, with 12-15 net carbs coming from foundation veggies.
