Thank you Reddarin for your post. I should be more willing to do like you did and get into the specifics of other's posts, but I felt Ledunkly was stuck in the mud so to speak especially saying she was a dietician. You would think a dietician would actually do the research.

RD's are in the same boat as the rest of the mainstream nutritional expert community - they are taught, as gospel and in no uncertain terms, the mainstream nutritional "science" which is all based on the discredited faux-science known as the lipid hypothesis.

That is why I didn't beat up Ledunkly about being an RD.

Ledunkly, you should watch the Fat Head documentary. The official release version is available on youtube to watch for free:

You'll be shocked at the history of what is behind the stuff you were taught.

Because I'm still hungry at 1500 calories, I'm going a little higher.

I don't want to be hungry any more - that's what derailed all my efforts on WW. Made me think I was bulimic. Turns out I'm not.

Through my insurance, I have access to a RD. Spoke with her yesterday. She said that ethically, she wasn't able to offer advice on a fad diet that would eventually shut down my kidneys; it would also go against her professional oath.

Well, at least she was honest. But it's hard to understand why a low carb way of life is still so misunderstood. The lowest acceptable carb intake according to her was around 60 grams.

I love Fat Head. It really throws the monkey wrench into 'normal diet recommendations'. Just wish I could get my mom to understand this and maybe she could get off th echolesterol and diabetic meds she is on.

Willtry, I do hope you weren't using vomiting or laxatives to 'lose' weight. That is classic bulimia.

When I try to watch this video I get message that it is age restricted. Am I the only one? I login with my account ID, still same problem. Anybody knows how to fix it?

Katred, wow, your mom has been on Atkins for 37 years... And to think that a RD just told me that if I continued, my kidneys would shut down... Thanks for your inspirational post.

If that were true Willtry.... then the whole Innuit and other north American tribes that eat an almost complete diet of meat fish and fats should be dead.

Yes times have changed and western foods have now reached up to them, but the point is their `diet`is mainly what they hunted and only could get berries and/or greens for a month or two of any year.

Alot of people think of Atkins only from the induction phase which includes 20 net carbs of veggies mainly or even from the past when on induction you couldn't have any carbs at all. But few refer to the lifetime maintenance phase which is so easy to maintain.

I'm 58 and been on and off it since the 70's not always to lose weight, just because it's what works for me to feel good, full and stay healthy.

Thanks for the information guys. Not trying to undermine the diets that you are on, but what concerns me is that you are 51, and of good weight. Why would you...restrict yourself that much? Your reason does not seem to be of health reasons, and you are definitely concerned about weight gain. Even if you are not anorexic or bulimic, this kind of mentality is very very dangerous, and in my honest opinion, a little extreme. Gaining weight is not the worse thing that can happen and there are more important things in life. Happiness and health are two of them.

Whatever diet you are on, as long as you are healthy and happy and not feeling hunger, that's important.

You're not overweight and you exercise. Eat well. Be happy.

edit: What I'm trying to say is, whatever you do, as long as you're not hurting your own self, be it mentally or physically, and if what you are doing makes you happy, then by all means, you should strive for it. Being healthy does not mean being skinny, is what I'm saying.

Orange, if I wasn't ready to restrict myself, and if my current weight made me happy, I would not have joined Fatsecret!

I just hope you don't have deeper issues related to body image distortion or eating disorders.

Because with your current height and weight, your bmi is 22. And since you exercise, your bpf probably counts more.

You shouldn't worry that much is all I'm saying.

That is strange. Check your account settings for parental controls and turn them off if they are on (I guess).
