Limited mobility Exercises

I have issues with my spine. I can not do a lot of the exercises I have seen. I know I cannot do any leg lifting, no twisting or turning at the waist, lying flat is very difficult, no bending backwards, no kicks... I can walk at a walking pace. Are there any exercises any one knows about for people with severe back limitations?

Can you lift a couple of light weights? I often do this while sitting down watching TV.
And walking is the very best. Water therapy might also work for you.

I can probably try small weights with my arms up and down no twist motions.. I have scoliosis and lordosis of the spine with herniated/deviated discs.

might check with your doctor and see if you can get a physical therapy consult. Used to work in a PT dept and doctors used to do that often as exercise can help the pain and also strengthen muscle groups to help stop furthur deterioration and sometimes improve conditions.

Actually avoiding knee replacement surgery is one thing that keeps me on track to slowly lose wt and be more active. Following ortho docs advice -- also I usually wear wrap around ankle weights on his advice. I have a desk job at a computer all day so even just doing lower leg lifts with the wts on is at least something.

I've had back surgery, so I understand. I can walk but time I'm done with just a mile, my leg is numb. The pain specialist, as someone here suggested also, keep telling me SWIM.... low impact all your joints. You can do all sorts of things you would do in the gym but in water and it won't hurt you. So I'm finally going to take the advice and just do it.

Swimming and water exercise is great for the body. Am hoping to save the pennies to join our water park next summer. It's very reasonable for seniors. I miss swimming.

That's something one of my grandfathers used to say. I still say it when it's something extra I need to squeeze out of my budget. Definately can't pay for it before Christmas though I woud save $5.00.

I hope you can do that after Christmas. It's soo good for a body. I can only swim in the summer-the Y an the other gym that has a pool is out of my budget and woud cost too much in gas to get to often. The water park besides all the slides etc has a nice pool and also one of those lagoons that would be good for walking etc. It's close to my house. I hope that with walking and working out this winter I won't feel stupid on a swimming suit next summer. I love doing laps--crazy but I have since I was a kid and did at least 10 miles a day before swim team practice.

Consider joining a fitness gym. There are machines that up your heart rate without putting weight on ankle. Rowing machine for one. Or a pool, if available for swimming.

This is tough......I,m spending 90% of my time trying to stay on meal plan and the other 10% going off it.....Resulting in an increase in weight..
