organic virgin coconut oil

Im starting the induction phase of the Atkins diet and im wondering if virgin coconut oil is ok to use. there are 14g of fat 12g saturated and 1g monounsaturated. 0g of carbs and it is expeller pressed which i know they say is good, but it is also bottled in a facility that produces peanut oil. So can I use this. Sorry if this a stupid question im just really new to this diet. Thanks for any help.

You sure can use it.
I did not even know there was a special section for the 2002 Atkins book here. It is my diet as well.

thank you. I had people telling me the saturated fat was the worst and i shouldnt use it.

Saturated fat is natural fat. It is what you should be having.
Those people could not be doing Atkins diet if they said that

The saturated fats found in virgin coconut oil is a different kind of fat than the saturated fats found in meat & dairy. They contain long chain fatty acids, but coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids (MCT) which actually lowers the risk of high cholesterol & heart disease.

Eating saturated fat does not increase the risk of heart disease.
Eating natural fat is good for a person's body

The research that tagged coconut oil as a "bad saturated fat" actually used a highly processed and hydrogenated laboratory product that is not utilized by the body as natural coconut oil or other saturated fats are. The animals used were not humans. Often in such research they do compose "diets" of several simple substances and then claim that they resemble human diets, when in no way do they. For instance, a rat diet for an experiment may be composed of casein for protein, crisco for fat, and sucrose for carbohydrates in varying quantities. They compare with controls on a rat chow diet and then draw conclusions about human diets.

Hundreds of millions of people eat coconut products daily, yet populations of countries where it has been a mainstay are healthy. The fact is that the research used to base policy on was preliminary and faulty in that they drew conclusions that were unwarranted.
