My husband and I set out to lose weight together. We bought an eliptical machine, made the decision to work on portion control, and incorporate healthier foods into our diet.
However, we are 4 weeks into the new year and here I am doing this all by myself - not being very successful.
It is so frustrating to try to do this when the other doesn't have the motivation to make the changes. And it is really easy just to throw in the towel
Any advice for those trying to reach their weight loss goals alone? How do you stay motivated?
Thanks,

Hopefully you chose to do this for yourself, because you can only change yourself. You can't change other people.
Focus on your goal. Visualize your body the way you want to look and feel. Regularly take time to visualize the changes that will take place from day to day, week to week, month to month, and year to year as you achieve your goal and get continually fitter.
Set an example for your husband by going about this by yourself and achieving your goals. Don't push him to do it. That will push him away.

My partner still eats how she wants, and buys the worst food for my diet. But I have my own food that she thinks is gross, but keeps me thin! I guess the weight loss is its own reward; you have to make YOU happy, not others. Want motivation? Look in the mirror. Do it naked. Yikes! Scared heck out of me when I did that. Getting on that scale helped my motivation also. Plus, once you start the program and see results (weight on the scale drops, clothes too loose, compliments from others). I have come up on people I haven't seen in a couple years and they didn't recognize me. That is just plain FUN.
I slip, as you can see by my profile, but I get back into it. Calorie Counter and this site are fabulous and constantly motivate me.
The eliptical sounds fun. Check out my diet and see if that may work for you.
Good luck!

I watch the Biggest Loser and look at how great they look as the weesk progress. I weigh myself first thing in the morning a couple of times a week, and also measure my waist and hips, and record it in a little note book that only I can look at. I also go out when the weather is good, we've had quite alot of rainy days and now it's snowing so I am getting on my step machine when the adverts are on tv. Keep your food diary on here too, if I don't I don't lose as much weight. Good luck!

I have watched a few of the programmes with super morbidly obese people in them, I take from them clues that suggest which ones will succeed and which will not, from this I check my own attitude, check I am not making excuses, and try to find what those that succeed do right.
I don't know where you are based, in US or UK or elsewhere but my family doctor's has a clinic run by the practise nurse who will weigh you fortnightly, if something like this is available it might keep you motivated, if it isn't available do you have a friend or family member who would weigh you weekly or fortnightly, that can keep you focussed.
It is now thought that wais size is as important or more important as a measure of health so measure your waist and record it every week or fortnightly. Good luck - you can do it.
