Hi,
I'm looking for a greek yogurt..plain ,no additives, I have been eating the fage total classic but can no longer find it and I'm hearing that there are better yogurts out there.
I'm also toying with the idea of making my own..but that's on the back burner for now.
So...I'd like your feedback on what you eat and like.
Thanks

Im with you on the light and fit, the low fat vanilla is amazing 110cal a cup. I just tried it today actually. What is the nutritional difference between the two? I certainly know the taste is different but I also enjoyed the fage greek with the mix ins. They get expensive though.
Based on a site I found on Google, greek yogurt has got 2x the protein, 3x less calcium, less sodium and carbs but calories overall are about the same. It can be used in cooking because it doesn't curdle. Interesting stuff.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info.
I've never heard of the Kalona brand, so guess I'll have to start experimenting with brands to find what works and tastes good !

I stick to Chobani because I like the taste and it's the easist to find in my area. Nutritionally and cost it's about the same as fage. I used to stick to the light and fit but now I'd rather up the cals to get the calcium and especially the protein. I tend to like things that aren't over sweet and the greek isn't plus it's so thick it's like I'm cheating! (And since I'm trying to get back to low carb it is cheating lol)

Fage is still my absolute favorite. I would disagree that there's much better out there (especially plain). I do think Chobani is also really good, and (super-surpise to me!) Costco's Kirkland brand is a very acceptable substitute as well; it's got the same great flavor and texture with no grit, and has no crazy ingredients: milk and germs, that's it, just as good plain yogurt should be! It's so good that I suspect that it's made in the same place as one of the majors.
If you ever branch out into flavored options, I think the Chobani 0% fat singles are great - both because they are based on the superior yogurt (there's a layer of plain yogurt sitting on top of a layer of the flavor stuff) and because they have really interesting flavors. I don't usually eat flavored, but their blood orange is AMAZING. I also recently tried a Dannon toasted coconut flavor (full fat) that was SO FLIPPING GOOD.

80 calorie cups? Definitely didn't see those. They come in regular little yogurt sized cups as singles or as a pack? I like the vanilla because its just a bit sweet and I can add whatever fruit im in the mood for but usually none at all because it tastes phenomenal on its own for me. I'd have a cup of it over a fat slice of cake, easy. Being a cake addict that says alot about how far my taste buds have come!

I also like the Chobani. But for me, Healthy Choice has new Frozen Greek Yogurt (at Walmart) and its a whole lot better than eating yogurt. I also have purchased PB2 (powdered peanut butter/choc) and mix that in my yogurt - delicious. Hope this helps and good luck!

My current favorite is Dannon's Oikos nonfat yogurt. 130 calories (5.3 oz. serving), 12g protein, 170g potassium, 45g sodium. 15% daily value of calcium and vitamin D. Vanilla is my favorite, but also like fruit on the bottom flavors.

I too eat Kroger Carbmaster yogurt either for breakfast or as a desert. I've only tried the Greek type yogurt once and didn't care for it.

I love 0% Total Greek Yoghurt, I add sweetner and vanilla or strawberry flavouring for a fat free tasty treat. I put it over a chopped banana or apple and because it's so thick, I think that I'm having fresh cream...yum

Even though fat doesn't count in Atkins, it can cause you to gain or not lose weight if you consume too much. Be careful of over eating this nutrient. ie: cream, cream cheese.
