Stomach ache during and after WORKOUT??

Confused For some reason this has been going on for bout a month but on & off. I will be working out doing my evening Zumba and towards the end of my workout and after I get this horrible stomach ache in the upper abdominal area?? Not sure what is causing it but man o man last night was another aching evening Sad took sum pepto n went to sleep! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I was reading up on it and says might be gas, dehydration or not eating properly?? but I drink TONS of water a day and eat my JC meals so hmmm i dunno whats going on..

Not to bash Jenny Craig or anything, but if your diet calendar is accurate and that's all you're eating, your stomach pain is must likely caused by severe hunger and malnutrition. You weigh 197, but you're eating 800 calories and working out? You don't see anything wrong with that?

Sure, there's a chance you could have some sort of illness (ulcers?), but whatever the problem is, I'm sure it's made infinitely worse by your starvation.

Also, there is so validity in turtledrummer's question. I've heard a few people complaining about stomach pain if they eat right before working out.
If you think my post is too abrasive, harsh, or offensive, you're:
A) Wrong.
B) Too sensitive.
C) Not going to receive an apology for pointing it out.

I get sick if I don't eat within an hour of working out. Nauseous, headache, and complete loss of energy an motivation. I usually eat a banana, apple or some crackers with almond butter. 100-200 calories. That seems to work without fail.

Turtledrummer, I eat dinner around 4:30 workout @ 7pm.

an00bis, well I just started this site yesterday and havent recorded everything to the "T" I also eat a side salad with lunch and dinners adding steamed veggies with dinner time as well.. Im on a 1500-2000cal plan.So i think you may be right on the not eating enough..

Read this yesterday on Atkins website. Drink cup of broth or vegetable stock one hour before workout to help avoid electrolyte loss while sweating. Better than sport drinks via sugars. Could be dehydrated and plain water doesn't have that extra sodium. Worth a try

Thanks shelly! and you may be right! Plain bottled water is really all I drink! maybe on the weekends might have a Sprite Zero but not often.. mostly just drink water.. Thanks for the tip!

I'd go with everyone else on this one. Some sort of sustenance is necessary before and after workouts to maintain muscle and not burn it in a last ditch effort to gain energy. Protein shakes are highly recommended for this but you have to make room for the calories in your diet. I'd also agree with an00bis. 800 seems wicked low if you're working out at your weight. One thing that I don't think people completely comprehend is that while weight loss is weight loss, burning muscle during your workouts would not be considered healthy weight loss, so keeping that in mind is huge in ending up healthier as opposed to just being lighter. Just something to keep in mind.

No the 800 was not correct I quickly posted the main courses but even after adding everything I ate I'm still falling short of my 1500-2000 intake grrr.. Im sure if I ate those Anytime bars they want me to eat I would probly cap the 1500 lol, but they are nasty! Gonna have to find a way to complete my cal. intake..

I used to get sick like that when I was on Atkins and did workouts. I found I needed to add in some carbs 30 minutes before I worked out and it alleviated the problem. I don't have that problem on Nutrisystem but I'm also eating a lot more carbohydrates on a regular basis.

It's also possible that you have acid reflux that's triggered by exercise. Does it feel like your esophagus is burning?

Hoser - No no burning in my esophagus, just a tummy ache in my upper abdominal area.. not a soreness feeling just upset stomach feeling with a nauseous feeling, the pepto helps but was trying to figure out why i get those aches after a workout.

Are you sure it's not stitch? I was getting it really badly when I was running because I was drinking too much water before I worked out. I have to only take little sips of water 1.5 - 2 hours before I work out, otherwise I get stitch.
