I am a 70 year old male, and have been using Weight Watchers diet for about 19 months. I can not say anything bad about the WW plan; I have lost 70lbs(347-277) using their plan. However; I am having a difficult time with their web site. So; I thought I'd this site a try as well. And, so far so good. BUT: it seems to me that the numbers are a bit generous. According to this site I am allowed 2700 cal's per day. If I add in my activities that number jumps to 3600+ per day. Can this be correct?

Wow, that is way too high!! Many have said the activity levels are too high of an estimate. I don't use the activity calculators on here, so I can't really say. I would probably try to stick with your points plan but maybe use this to see how many calories that has been allowing you.

Posted: 16 Sep 2012, 11:19 This is the one I like, I am very bound to agree, when I saw the recommendations on this site and how much it thinks I burn, even only counting in exercise and sedentary time, not all that I do at work, it was more than I was already eating.

Think of the numbers they give as a starting point. This is a lifelong project. It can do no harm to your long-term progress to take a week or two to count calories and find out what your calorie needs are, then base your target intake on that.

I think their numbers are way off, too.

My RDI was really high too, 2600. I decided to use it for a week and see the results, then i'll adjust it... what do you think about this plan?

Thanks to all. It has really helped my planing. I am staying on the WW plan. However; This site is much more informative and finding a food here is almost to ez. And as a bonus I can cross reference calories and such with points. And Again, thanks to all.

Remember, you need to leave a gap between what you burn and what you consume. 500 Calories/day means 1 pound lost per week. So ignore the RDI and just look at that - the RDI is pointless!

This is a good starting point, but you really need an exercise plan to maximize the results. Even if it is just walking. Get moving!
