Greek Yogurt

OK, I know the stuff is good for you, but who can stand the taste? Yeah, I'm not a fan. However, I am a fan of better for me & helping me lose weight. So I ask all of you for ideas, tricks, or recipes that feature greek yogurt, but will mask the taste. I had frozen blueberries in the freezer, mixed those in, but it didn't help much. I have a very strict food budget, so make it cheap. Thanks a million!!

it is actually delicious with fruit a little crushed corn flakes and a teaspoon of honey or to make frozen yogurt by blending with frozen fruit and if you want it sweet a bit of sweetener although a good greek yogurt is supposed to be a bit tart

I use peanut butter or no added sugar fruit spreads. Most Greek yogurt I have found is FULL of sugar (I'm looking at you Chobani and Greek God) with the exception of the Fage Total 0%.

Bglrn - I would not have thought of PB...sounds odd, but I am willing to try anything. I chose the plain greek yogurt, Chobani, because there is very little variety in my small town. Next time I get to a bigger burg I will try to find Fage. Thanks for the input!!
This morning I did try fresh (frozen) local berries from this summer. Not much blueberries weren't very sweet. Had to choke it down. I am aiming for as little sugar & carbs in my diet as possible, so I may just end up choking it down until I aquire the taste. Hey, I did it with coffee!!

I use it as a 'frosting' to my morning oatmeal. Schwans has the most fabulous frozen blueberries - I mix those into the cooked oatmeal. I add cinnamon to the oatmeal. The mixture of oats, berries and yogurt - love it.
I'm not losing WEIGHT. I'm converting FAT to MUSCLE to be healthier.

Forcing yourself to eat something you don't like is going to make it harder for you to stay on your diet. I suggest you eat things you don't like as rarely as possible.

I add whey protein powder (vanilla or strawberry). Masks the taste completely and you have a high protein low carb snack. I have it most mornings with chia seeds and hemp hearts and keeps me going all morning.

I luv greek yogurt so these ideas may fall flat.

Add a pinch of raw brown sugar, and mix it in.
Add some grape nuts, to give it some added texture
Add soy nuts, another option to give texture and change flavor.
Goal 1 - Run half marathon in early June (run not walk)
Goal 2 - Drop 100 lbs total before my birthday in late June

Don't do it!

You should build your diet around foods that you enjoy and want to eat. Eating foods you don't enjoy is not a good way to build healthy lifelong eating habits.

I found as the junk I was eating left my system I am enjoying things I hated in the past - like yogurt, esp Greek yogurt and Brussels Sprouts. As time passes I will revisit healthy food I rejected in the past to determine if there's something new (and good for me) to add to my 'menu for the rest of my life'.

I agree with the others advising you not to force yourself to eat something you can't stand. However, I feel it's worth mentioning that I had a hard time with Greek yogurt at first. Now I can't imagine not having it as part of my lunch. I purchase the Fage Total 0% by the tub and have half a serving (113g) with my turkey wrap for lunch. I add 1 teaspoon of honey to it and it I love the taste. I also use it in place of sour cream since that's what Greek yogurt tastes like to me. To me it has the same taste and creamy texture of sour cream, but none of the fat. Before I add the honey to my half serving, I take a small amount of it out of the bowl and smear it on the tortilla I use to make my turkey wrap. I like the ideas of others here to add fruit or brown sugar. I might also suggest that you try adding a little granola to it to see if you like that. There are many variations of granola mixtures you can purchase at a grocery store in a bag, box, or from a bulk bin and some have brown sugar included in them. If you go with this option you get a little sweetness to offset the sour taste of plain Greek yogurt and if you like a crunch, then it also adds a nice texture to the yogurt. I hope you find something you like.

If you don't like chunky yogurt, i.e. Fruit on the bottom, try Dannon's traditional. The fruit is blended up rather nicely. Also, try to get flavors you would like. If you know that you don't like strawberries, then get a different flavor.

If you are trying to cut carbs at the same time, stop thinking of it as of a sweet treat. It works extremely well as a base for vegetable dips and in all dishes in which you would use sour cream or cottage cheese. It is very tasty with diced cucumbers, dill and a pinch of salt, with tomatoes, with grilled eggplants or winter/summer squash. I do not use 0% fat a lot,fat is not the enemy, and 2% or higher tastes better as well. Adding vegetables is also cheaper than adding fruit and berries.

I just tried the Dannon Light and Fit Greek. I am normally not a fan but the Strawberry is pretty good. It is a fruit on the bottom style with only 80 calories.

when i first tried greek yoghurt i too found it somewhat revolting haha, but actually i forced my self to eat it often, and now its one of my favourite foods, weird haha and its great for you. i always have it plain low fat style and bananas are excellent to add sliced up because they dd the sweetness you might be looking for.

I throw it in the blender, add 1/2 an avacado (greek yogurt has no fat), water, frozen berries and a cup of greens (turnip or kale). It's a great smoothie.

I agree with Preggo38... the chia seeds & hemp hearts are fantastic. However, I don't have much of a problem with Greek yogurts... I like most tart foods. I enjoy eating the flavored Chobani and I've also discovered that adding it in while making frozen fruit smoothies is the best... so yummy! I also enjoy the fruity Fage.

Discovered a few weeks ago that a squirt of Mio for flavoring water is nice. No calories and the Black Cherry flavor is fantastic.
