Just my opinion based upon my reading, the bottom line is calories. I feel the calorie calculator on FS was too high for me. I found a Basal Metabolic Rate calculator by Googling and then applied the Harris-Benedict Equation for activity level to find my daily need to maintain my weight. I reduced that value by 20% because the Harris-Benedict is flawed if you are very muscular or very obese, meaning the more fat you are the less reliable the equation is for you. You will actually need fewer calories than the equation suggests. Remember removing 3500 calories a week from this value equals one pound a week loss, so I would multiply your daily need by seven, subtract 7000 for a two pound a week loss, and then divide that number by seven for a daily calorie need for weight loss. If you are a female and this number is less than 1200, do not go below 1200. If you are male and the number is below 1500, don't go below 1500. Realize weight fluctuates and you won't always see a two pound a week loss on the scale, but over the long haul it should average out to about that. Use Fat Secret to track your daily intake and assign values to what you eat. One warning, I have found a number of errors in the data base. Foods you think look wrong or foods you eat regularly you should check for yourself on the manufacturers website. I started this with a few days left in February of 2012 and by Thanksgiving I had lost 95 pounds. All I do is track the calories, not fat, carbs or anything else. Just calories.

Do not diet, create a new and healthy lifestyle, you might not loose as much as quick but you will keep it off and maintain healthy living. Eat breakfast - very important, keep your carbs low after 2pm drink your 2 liter a day - you will be amazed to see the change once you start taking off skin from chicken, cut the fat off meat and change from fatty / starchy foods to salads, veggies etc. You can use your initiative and cook good tasty food without the extra calories. Exercise - even if it is just a 20 minute walk a day

Both comments above are good suggestions. Don't think about the word diet. Whatever rdi FS comes up with for your current weight knock off 200 to 300 calories then start calorie counting to try and get below it and drink lots of water if you don't then your body will retain it . There are loads of different means to getting to your goal weight and you have to find what suits you.

What I do completely contradicts everything in this post.

I never eat breakfast, always eat the fat on meat, especially the skin on the chicken.

The only thing that matters is what works for you.
