sugar okay or not okay in induction

You are supposed to avoid sugar as much as possible, but it's unlikely that you will avoid it completely. Many cheeses, salad dressings, and condiments, for example, are completely acceptable for all phases of Atkins, but they may have a gram or two of carbs.

If you're doing Induction level Atkins, you want to keep your Net Carbs at around 20g per day. For things that have simple sugars, the carb count and the net carb count are the same. For things like vegetables, which have a lot of complex carbs that don't act on the bloodstream as quickly, the carb count is higher than the net carb count, so you can eat more vegetables and technically have more carbs in your diet, but still maintain your net carb goals and lose weight.

You can set your food diary so you can track both carbs and net carbs so that you can see the difference with every item you list.

In induction, I can't do Atkins bars at all but I can do splenda. You have to find out what stalls your body. I will do no more than 2 packets if I do and not every day. We are suppose to avoid regular sugar completely.

There is a dietary difference between "sugar" the sweetner and "sugars" (with an s) naturally found in foods. Things like oranges and tomatos contain sugars, for instance. Atkins bars do NOT contain sugar the sweetner, but they do contain sugars from glycerine and sugar alcohols. The body reacts VERY differently to sugar compared to sugars.

There are indeed many people that can't handle sugar alcohols or glycerine, which is why their weight loss stalls when eating Atkins bars or shakes...

Um, if you go buy the old Atkins, no. New Atkins, yes. But even one the writers of the new Atkins, Dr Westman, claims your body can use fiber as carbs, so i think going by total carb count is best not net carb count. All carbs turn into sugar. It doesn't matter.

Like most cultish groups you can't tell the Atkins community anything they don't want to believe. Google maltitol and make your own conclusions.

Now, that can be partly bcause the female time was this week OR it may be the sugar alcohol. None-the-less, I am cutting out the sugar alcohol as it made me crave more carbs anyway. As for the cult. I do what I feel is good for me, some people on Atkins swear by certain things but most will tell you to listen to your own body and go from there, like with any diet.

I only want to eat 'real'food.I may need to use them for any trips/vacations,etc. But the reason I love Atkins is because it basically teaches you to eat real foods and not worry too much on counting calories.Counting carbs is easy!

For the most part, I don't trust "low carb" products anymore after experimentation. Though having one once a week doesn't affect me. Everyone is different, and must experiment themselves and watch for changes in their weight loss to determine how their body reacts to certain foods. You're going to have to do the same thing when you get to OWL, might as well start now Very Happy

Wow, fredmugs, that was...uncalled for. Why not simply state your own opinion on the specific subject instead of attempting to fill some sort of strange need to feel superior by putting down what has worked and continues to work for many others? Whatever gets you through your day, I guess...

ANYWAY, in response to the OP--as others mentioned here maybe it would help to experiment with the shakes/bars to see how your own body reacts to them (include them in your menu for a week or two, then remove them for a week or two and compare weight loss, any cravings, etc). When I was much younger the shakes/bars didn't effect me negatively at all. Now that I'm older and have to take certain meds I find that my body can't handle them like it once could. I have friends who actually are helped in losing weight by using the products.

The only important thing is how YOUR metabolism reacts to them! Very Happy

Follow the money. The Atkins people make a lot of money from sale of their products. Whether they work for you in any phase is an issue you will have to sort out.

I may not agree with how someone else chooses to lose weight, but I will never put them down in any way for making a choice to improve their life. I guess I will never understand those who feel a need to do so...
