Help! Cannot get into Ketosis
Hey there. I have found that your numbers should look more like 70% fat 20% protein and 10% carbs. I was told this last year and it helped tremendously. I hope this helps! :)

Recovering Nicotine Addicts
I had the same exact issue when I quit 4 years ago. Only when I quit I immediately joined a gym and figured out a diet regimen along with the exact times I needed to eat so I didn't gain any weight. Well, I gained anyways....around 50 lbs. I was so frustrated with what to do that I went to my Dr. and told her what was going on and that I wasn't using food to compensate. She explained to me that every time you have a cigarette you're working your metabolism unnaturally, and eventually it stops working on its own because it doesn't have to, the cigarettes are doing it for it. Apparently it can take up to a year for it to kick back into working right. But as long as you're working out and eating right then it should start back up. So don't lose hope, I know how frustrating it is, but it will take some time. Hope this helps :)

Food Lover's Diet????
I hope everyone is having a great start to the new year. I was just wondering if anyone has done or is doing the food lover's diet. I saw it on an infomercial  and when they started talking about pairing food together to keep your blood sugar level, it peaked my interest. I was just curious as to if it works or if it's a gimmick. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Lost 62 pounds so far (since January 2012) but i am on a "plateau"...
Hey Slimmer, I do the same thing to break a stall. I think it jolts your body and gets it working again. Im glad I'm not the only one that uses this :)

staying in ketosis
I would love to get a look at your daily intake. Sometimes what you cant see someone else can, and then maybe help with whats going on. Log your food for a few days and then maybe we can see whats going on.

New
Good for you on all accounts! Quitting smoking is such a huge deal. I quit almost 4 years ago. You will feel so much better. I know you will do great. You have the right attitude, and the "I'm Done" mentality. Good luck on your journey, and welcome to fatsecret, you will love it here.

Atkins Advantage Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar
Some of the items for the atkins products havent been put into the system properly. You can create a new item and keep it just for your personal entry

So let me get this straight
You need to take into account all the other basics as well. Such as sodium (if to high will make you retain lots of water), fat, carbs, etc. etc. All of these are also a factor on whether you lose/gain. Not just calories.

Is this okay?
I think you're doing just fine. You're right, you lose much faster in the beginning. Your cells release excess water, so it seems that you lose faster at first. But you don't seem to be doing anything extreme or unhealthy that would prompt worry about how quickly it was coming off. I would say to just enjoy it while it lasts, and keep up the good work :) p.s. please don't get discouraged when it does slow down, it will happen and it tends to make people lose motivation because it was coming off nicely before.

to all the other short gals
Im not sure what "short" means, but Im 5'5 and around 160 right now. I also carry my weight in my middle. My doctor explained to me that when a person has a body type like this then they are more prone to blood sugar problems, which I do. And to be careful with the carbs. But yes I understand the frustration! I've never had a flat stomach, even when I 110. But oh well, what do you do :)

I am doing something wrong
I just took a quick look at your diet calendar. I have heard that the shakes and bars do stall a lot of people. What you should keep higher than your protein is fat. This is a high fat diet. I try to keep mine around 70% fat 20% protein and 10% carbs. I try to eat a lot with cream cheese and heavy whipping cream. I recently found mascarpone, a lot like cream cheese only with no carbs. Buttermilk ranch with veggies is also good for the fat content. Maybe try coconut oil. I just found this great recipe that I'm trying to submit in the cook book. It's a half a cup of coconut oil, half a cup of heavy whipping cream and 1-2 tbs of baking cocoa. I used in my coffee with some truvia and it was awesome. And it gave me a boost of fat. I hope I've helped some, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Advice welcome
If we could get a look at what youre eating on a regular basis, we would be able to get a better idea as to whats going on. Take some time to log all of your food in and we would be more then happy to help :)

Sweets
Well, most low carb diets are based around breaking the craving. Im doing atkins and the first phase is basically cleaning your body out of most carbs and sugars and slowly bringing them back. But always being aware of what can trigger your cravings and then eliminating it altogether. Atkins recommends doing the first phase at least 2 weeks, the first week can be tough depending on how much "cleansing" your body needs to do. But once you get through it, your cravings are gone and you feel awesome. I dont really know the other ways, Im sure there are lots out there, but this is one way I know of....Hope it helped.

Atkin buddies- induction phase support wanted
Hey nalinel, I would be more than happy to help. Ive been on induction for about 5 months now, so I hope I can be supportive. Although I dont know about rheumatoid arthritis, I do know all about prednisone. My son, husband, and brother have severe asthma. So, I get how you can balloon very quickly with the steroids. Feel free to add me as a buddy! :)
