50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
This weeks challenge is great. While I don't own an elevator in my house I do have a second floor. My goal will be to do a least 150 stair steps each day. My poor knees!

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Never tried and never will do weight loss surgery for 2 main reasons. 1st-I can't stand doctors and hospitals-no faith in either of them. 2nd-I had a c-section w/my son and there was a lot of complications. I didn't react well to the drugs, it was a mess. plus it took me 3 months to be able to sleep on my belly much less do a sit up.

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Sorry slacking this week, I have been out of town and have been indulging in the alcohol too much. That's probably why I gained a pound. Back on track this week I hope.

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Great challenge this week. I try to do 100 sit ups every time I exercise but for the past couple of days I haven't been able to exercise because of a bad sunburn. I know, I know it was stupid. But I can't remember the last time I got a sunburn like this, years and years ago. I think tomorrow I'll be able to do some crunches w/out my back hurting so much. I do have a really good abs exercise. Lay on the floor w/bent knees and feet touching the floor(like you are going to do a situp). Next stretch your arms out in front of you and try and lift yourself up in a sitting position. Then roll yourself back down slowly(try keeping your legs glued together). Very hard but you feel those muscles working!

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Well no loss no gain this week. I didn't exercise very much and I drank way too much this holiday weekend. Not a good combo. Next week back on track!!

Lacking energy
Your motivation should be how badly do you want to lose weight and be healthier. I ask myself that question every time I don't feel like exercising. It usually works and if it doesn't I go put on a pair of old jeans that don't fit and go stand in the mirror.

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
I am no winner trust me. All the weight I lost was water thanks to my period. I can easily gain 10#s and go up 2 sizes during my period. Then a couple days later I go back to my normal weight. I should just not weigh in on those weeks so there is no confusion. The real winner is marathonwoman who lost almost 5#s. Wow!

fasting
Again fasting is not for weight loss!!!! My advice-do some reading on it before you partake in it. It is a dangerous thing if not done properly.

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like? 1 brother that I don't talk to at all, very sad but he likes to spend all his time w/wife's family. Source of bitterness and fights I guess. 5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people. I live in VA hampton roads area w/my son. I live in a transitional(1/2 ghetto 1/2 upscale) neighborhood. Let's just say I would like to move to a better place but the current economy isn't what it should be. 6. What is your occupation? Self employed cater/bead freak 10. Are you right- or left-handed? Both but I use my right hand for writing, which doesn't happen too much anymore. Who writes these days? 12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently? Also I'm a serial plucker, still have my eyebrows though. One thing I'm proud of , I may be fat but I can still put one leg behind my head. Years of ballet and yoga I guess. Vegetarian
Don't be afraid to be a veggie head. There are too many good reasons why you should be proud of the choice. Think of it, it's good for you and the environment. Not to mention the savings for your food budget. Chicken $5.28/# or carrots .25/# I cater for a living and people are always so surprised when I tell them I'm vegetarian. How do still cook meat and fish if you don't eat it? I just say hey I ate it for years I know how to cook it properly. It's rare that I get a funny look or a snide remark from someone. About cooking for meat eaters and yourself, just cook a meal and omit the meat from your portion. For more complicated things like chili just mix up everything but the meat in a big pot and take some of it out for yourself and add the meat to the other pot. Sometimes you have to be a short order cook and sometimes the other person has to eat what you're eating. We need to realize that we don't need to eat meat at every meal.

Stressed out moms!
I was a stay at home mom until my son was 2 and it was hard not to go crazy. That's why I went back to work I guess. Anyway I would go for long walks to the nearby park or to a mall if it was raining. Great way to exercise and what kid doesn't want to be outside. Look around for other stay at home moms and get a group together. It's fun for the little ones and you get to talk to other adults that share your situation. Hope you find something that works.

Water Cleansing?
Water and juice cleanses are to detoxify your body. They are not for weight loss. Sure you might lose some pounds doing it but once you eat regular food you usually gain it all back. Again I stress these cleanses are for cleaning out your digestive system and not a diet or weight loss tool.

Water Cleansing?
I have done juice and water fasts before. They take a lot of time and preparation. But when done properly your body will reap the benefits and you will feel amazing afterwards. When I prepare for this on the first day I eat yogurt, vegetables, fruit, juices. No heavy foods allowed. You want to ease your body into the fast not shock it. The second day I will eat fruit and drink water and juice and I do very little activity. The third day just drink water(at least a gallon). Again do no strenuous activity(take the day off). A great day to meditate and relax. The fourth day incorporate juice and fruit back in. The fifth day eat some veggies, more fruit and some yogurt. Maybe do some light exercise like a walk, if you feel up to it. The sixth day eat a little more, like add some steamed rice and a little bread, but nothing too heavy. The seventh day eat and exercise normally. This is a long process I know but it is the proper way to do it without hurting yourself. I suggest doing some research and consulting w/a doctor if you are not in the best of health. Good luck!

Breaking free from Compulsive Eating discussion
Ahh finally someone can bring this shameful practice to light. Food rules my life. I wake up thinking when and what I can eat for the day. Oh it's not time for dinner yet, I have to wait. If I walk fast for an hour I can eat 2 peanut butter sandwiches for a snack. Do I eat the chocolate cake, do I eat the last helping of rice, can I eat the slice of cheese and not have 4 more slices? We should start a binge eaters club here. I'll be the president. Before I came to this site I weighed 230lbs. 40 more than when I was pregnant w/ my son! Just years of emotional and stuff your face eatting. If I wasn't so active I am sure I could have weighed 300#s. Thank you Lotus for writing all this and keep it coming if your fingers will allow!

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Boy did I have a crappy week. I had a abscess on my tooth and had to have it removed Wednesday. So I was in alot of pain and did very little exercise this week. I also had to live off of pancakes, apple sauce, and overcooked rice. Not mention I have been PMSing bad and I have been overeating. I hope everyone else fared better than me.

Any vegetarians?
I agree w/everything on the above post. I've been a vegetarian for more than 6 years. You do have to get creative w/what you eat so you don't eat bread and carbs all the time. I'm no expert on the low carb thing and I can't get behind the idea, but I guess it works for some people. My suggestion would be get in lots of greens, fruits, vegetables(for fiber and staying regular) and nuts, seeds, dairy(for protein) . And take your vitamins especially B complex and iron! About losing weight, maybe changing your exercise routine might help or try to add more to your schedule. I like a good mix of aerobic and weight training(very good for us women). Good luck.

Tofu
Tofu is great, it will take the flavor of what ever it is being cooked with. Blend it up w/ fruit and make a smoothie(use the soft kind) or cut it up and use it in a stir fry or put it in a soup(use the extra firm for these types of recipes) I've even used tofu in stuffed shells instead of cheese and marinated it in soy sauce and put it in a sushi roll. Buy some and get creative!

Vegetarian SB?
I'm not on the south beach diet but I am a vegetarian and I don't eat eggs. I get my protein from whole wheat or grain products, nuts, beans, tofu and dairy products. For example a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat can give you almost 20 grams of protein. So do away w/ the meat I say! We eat too much of it anyway.
