Walking for Health
With the nice weather coming, I am interested in setting up a challenge that includes walking. A pedometer is not required because you can base it on minutes. I am basing the challenge on the Webwalking USA Walking Program that you can find at http://walking.about.com/cs/me... run by Wendy Bumgardner. This challenge could also equate minutes of exercise to miles travelled. Take a look at her program. It looks like fun.

 NO GAIN NO LOSS:cry: I SPENT MOST OF THE WEEK GROOMING MY DOG WITH TERRIBLE MATS. GOT THAT FINISHED. HEADING OUT TO THE GARDEN. I DIDN'T GET MUCH EXERCISE THIS PAST WEEK. I MUST GET RE-FOCUSED IF I AM GOING TO MEET MY GOAL. JUST RECEIVED THE SWEATER AND SKIRT I ORDERED FOR THE TRIP. LOOKS LOVELY ON. I NEED A VACATION.

:) Down 1 lb :) :d Down .5 inch:d Last nights meal probably put a pound back on but thats okay. Having fun is part of the mental health that keeps us going. I have posted my blueberry dessert in the kitchen It tastes a whole lot ritcher than the 282 calories per serving. And if made with fat free sour cream and splenda would be less calories. I can't participate in the stair challenge because there are no stairs around here that large. So I will try to do something else. 1/2 way there already. Wow. I have a long way to go but it is all in the trying.

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
;) Checking in early this week as it will be a very early start tomorrow to go to Billings. Wow a good week. Lost the 4lbs I gained last week and then another pound, did 1900 minutes of exercise and lost 2 inches off my waist and I didn't even do situps. Must be all the bending in the garden while weeding and picking. So I have zero situps to report but I will keep working in the garden. 8) I am still trying to break 200 before I leave for New Zealand on August 26th. It will be close unless I duplicate this last week, then it will be easy. Gotta be carfeul because I can't afford a whole new wardrobe for the trip. I have some thinner clothes in the closet that might work.:) So thank you all for your support and all your hard work. Together we can do this.

KazinVegas you are awesome and thank you and your hubby for posting those exercises. Congrats to all of us but espeially to the top three that are leading the way. Like Jan I will have to do a lot to catch up. I am proud of the 14 pounds I lost since I started on the program in December but have a long way to go. Only 3 since I started the challenge because of my backslide. You guys really motivate me.:!:

Not such a good week for me but I see some of you have done great-Kazinvegas for example. Great new challenge. I will have to find a mat for my ceramic floor to get comfortable. I think we should add the measurement to our signature. Good luck everyone.

Good point-we all have bad weeks. You guys do such great work and I love being with this group. We can do this together-even if it takes longer than we thought.

 I think the new challenge is great. In my rural environment I do not have a lot of choices how I exercise. I already walk, do some resistance training and lots of ranch chores. I guess I could start doing situps etc. I don't run as I have COPD. So we shall see how well I do on this challenge.:) Anyway I want to thank NJOYNLF and jwebber33 for all their hard work. As to our missing reporters. The problem with a long term challenge is staying with it. We may want to look at trimmining the dedicated group using guidelines like-you miss 2 weeks of reporting we drop you off the list so we can reflect our achievements accurately. What does everyone think?

A soso week. I did resistance training with free weights one day but have been very busy. I think mowing the lawn should count if it is not a self propelled mower (which mine is not) as resistance training. Lost 1 pound 1215 Minutes of exercise-I spent a lot of time in the garden and mowing this week.:p I have a string trimmer to mow our grass and yesterday I spooked a Rattlesnake with it. Now I know why I want to keep the paths to my garden, chicken coop, clothes line and dog pen short. It is starting to get hot so maybe I will sweat more off. Can I count shoveling chicken poo out of the coop as resistance training? What's our next challenge. We are doing great but I must get better to meet my goal of 200 before 26 August when I leave for New Zealand.

:) This weeks challenge is great BUT:?: They don't have resistance or weight training on the list for your exercise diary. I took light calisthenics. I have my free weights out and am starting easy. These are not exercises I have done in a long time. Every little bit helps though.

 Yahoo -2lbs and 880 minutes of exercise even being sick all week. Not bad. The recipes I tried were great. Now that I am back to where I was end of April, maybe I can keep the downward trend.8)

Recipes Lamb burgers in Pita with Tzatziki Sauce Ingredients 1 pound ground lamb 1 small onion chopped 1 clove garlic minced 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves 1/2 tsp fround cinnamon 2 tsp cumin 2 tsp paparika salt and pepper to tast. In a medium bowl, combine ground lamb, mint and spices. Form into 4 patties. Preheat barbecue to medium or a GF grill to 400. Grill burgers 5 minutes a side, until fully cooked. Serve in Pita bread pockets on a bed of shredded lettuce. Drizzle with Tzatziki sauce. Serves 4 Per Serving: (includes Tzatziki sauce and bread) 232 Calories 19.5g of protein 15.4g Fat 3.3g Carbohydrates 6.2g Saturated Fat Tzatziki Sauce 2 cups plain yogurt 2 cloves garlic 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint 1 large cucumber-peeled, seeded, shredded. 1. Use cheese cloth to strain yogurt over a bowl for 3 to 4 hours, until most of the water is drained 2. Press excess liquid out of shredded cucumber. In a medium bowl, stir together cucumber and strained yogurt. Mix in garlic, salt, pepper, mint. Chill for 1-2 hours. The lamb, mint, lettuce was all home grown. I made the pita pockets from scratch. Variations I made on the basic receipe: used vanilla yogurt used 2 cucumbers used 1 tablespoon of Costco ground garlic per clove of garlic This was delicious. So the burgers and the sauce are my two recipes. I just put them together. Today I plan to make a Tuna Pasta Salad Ingredients 2 cups uncooked bow tie pasta ( or other pasta of choice) 2 cans unsalted tuna packed in water 2/3 cup frozen peas, thawed 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 2/3 cup reduced fat salad dressing 1/8 tsp black pepper if desired 4 cups fresh spinach 1. Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add pasta and cook until tender, 10-12 minutes or according to package directions. Drain pasta thoroughly under cold water. In a large bowl combine cooked pasta, tuna, onions, peas, salad dressing and pepper. Toss to mix. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours. To serve place 1 cup spinach on individual plates. Top each with a 1/4 cup of salad and serve immediately. 8) For the health recipe hunters out there, here is a great site: http://www.mayoclinic.com It has all sorts of good recipes to try-even desserts that are "healthy". Great job everyone. I will try to get up to losing 2 lbs this week instead of just one. My health has not helped me at all by making me too sick to exercise. Then when I do feel well enough, the rains come. Yes I know-inside exercise but I don't have any equipment or videos/cds and I am 100 miles from a health club/gym. Must try harder though.

Not a really good week being sick, and rain again but at least I still lost one more pound. I keep seeing that pound of butter. So slowly but steady. Also 698 minutes of exercise, mostly in the garden.
