I cooked my green beans with bacon tonight and my son said they were the best green beans he's ever had (in all of his five years of life lol).

Eating out? Think about it!
I keep thinking about this post. There's one line that I keep coming back to in my mind - "the very act/process of eating is disgusting". I've never thought to categorize it that way and don't find it disgusting. I've only seen a statement like that on one other sort of web site. Everything I start to say sounds "preachy and presumptive" and I really don't want to come off that way. So, basically, I just want to say I hope you develop a love for eating foods that are healthy for your body and perhaps, with time, you can shift your focus when eating out from the act of it to enjoying the company of those you are with.

Eating out? Think about it!
Right now I only eat out about 4 times a year and the only thing I don't like about it is my fear that people will stare at me because of my size. I thoroughly enjoy the experience otherwise, especially not having to wash the dishes and not having to worry about what to do with leftovers :)

Damage control any ideas on how to help my daughter?
It doesn't matter what "everyone knows". It was insensitive and thoughtless of the teacher. It would have been just as thoughtless if everyone had to count their zits and there was one person in the class who obviously had a very bad case of acne and was teased when his/her number was put on the board. It would have been just as thoughtless if they had to have measured the chest size of every person there for some "experiment" (except then the chesty and flat-chested girls would both have been mortified). Just because it is "known" does not mean that a child should have something a teenager would consider embarrassing spotlighted in front of the entire class.

Please don't use the word diet with your daughter. The last thing you want is to start her off on a life time of 'dieting' - just eat healthy, explain the things that can harm her body if eaten regularly and the things that can give her good energy and make her feel healthier. My guess is you've already done this though.

Damage control any ideas on how to help my daughter?
I can tell you from the experience of being the fattest person in school my entire school life, when thoughtless and sometimes cruel things were done to me at school, what I wanted most was for everyone to just forget about it at school. The more often it was brought up at school, the more times the meaner people had a chance to be unkind to me. That being said, part of me thinks that teacher should have to do something equally embarrassing for herself, not to be mean, but so she can fully comprehend the pain her actions caused one of her students. But then the rest of me knows any female teacher who teaches high school and does not already know how sensitive girls are about their weight doesn't deserve to teach. There isn't a lot you can do. Unfortunately, people can be cruel and we have to learn who is worth our time and who isn't. Be thankful you have a relationship with her where she tells you what is wrong. I internalized most of the things that happened to me growing up. One thing might be to take her shopping tomorrow or Sunday afternoon *if* you know there are things she can get that will make her feel pretty. Obviously, this may not work if she wears a size with a very very limited selection. You might go looking yourself first if you know her style and make sure you see some things she may like. If you are not on a limited income, a spa day for you both might be welcome(I've never had one but i've heard from those who could that they are very nice). And while telling someone what awesome qualities they have is great, talking about 'inner beauty' typically just made me feel 'outer ugly' when I was younger.

U.S. Moves to Approve Genetically Modified Salmon
If it were the progeny of those who had ivf or had fertility treatments who made up the majority of those who were allergic to food, I could see your point. I can find no link between the two, however. That might be an interesting study, to track the medical histories of the children who have food allergies to see if someone in their direct line had fertility treatments. It seems that something like that would have already been done, but again I cannot find anything linking the two. I think hybridization of some foods may contribute to food allergies. And I certainly think the genetically modified foods could contribute. Even things like seedless "watermelons" don't exist in nature but have been sold in grocery stores for years now. We really have no idea what altered foods can do not only to us but to future generations.

The silliest thing today ...
The silliest thing I've heard today was in an oatmeal ad. The narrator stated that no one climbing Mount Everest ever stopped at a drive-thru on the way up. While I understand the apparent point of the statement, the statement itself is silly. If there were a restaurant on the mountain, it would not have a drive-thru since You cannot drive to the top of it. Secondly, I virtually guarantee if there were a restaurant half way up the mountain, many people who climb it would stop there, whether it was to come in from the weather or get some water or actually have a bit of a meal. I even think there would be more people climbing the mountain(at least up to the restaurant which would likely be many visitors' destination to begin with just to say they had been there). And don't forget the protesters that would abound to say building a restaurant would deface the mountain and ruin nature. Yes, I know I over thought the statement but I promise you this whole scenario played out instantly in my mind when I heard the narrator say that lol What's the silliest thing you've seen or heard recently?

U.S. Moves to Approve Genetically Modified Salmon
Right, but you said the rise in allergies started way before modified foods hit the market. I was attempting to make the observation that actually the reverse is more accurate. Modified foods hit the market (and became more readily available in greater quantities and varieties) before the rise in allergies. I didn't know of even one person in any of my classes growing up who had food allergies. There are several in my son's grade alone(kindergarten) now though, one of which is in his class. Some schools in my area don't even offer anything with peanuts/peanut butter in them on the breakfast/lunch menus because of it.

U.S. Moves to Approve Genetically Modified Salmon
I can't find a specific date but I'm pretty sure we started modifying food, making hybrids and so forth, many years before fertility treatments began. It's a real eye-opener to see just how much of the food in the grocery you'd not be able to attain in nature. I would not knowingly eat genetically altered salmon, or any other meat. We are just playing around and really have no idea what we as a society are doing when we play around with the very building blocks of life.

Atkins Induction Questions!
You can try this calculator http://www.phlaunt.com/lowcarb/DietMakeupCalc.php after reading about how it works at http://www.phlaunt.com/lowcarb/19058429.php I'm not saying follow it rigidly but it might give you an idea of what your totals may be. The protein levels that calculator recommends seems a little high to me, especially if a person has less to lose and is sedentary. You want to make sure you are eating enough protein so you won't lose lean mass while losing fat. You also don't want to eat too much protein because it will be stored as fat. I certainly would not eat more protein than that calculator recommends.

Fat vs Thin - what it looks like inside
It's very difficult to find an even somewhat accurate online bodyfat calculator when you are very obese. I don't have a way(or the means) to get it done professionally and the calculators online either come out way too low or way too high. I mean at my approximate weight there's pretty much no way I could only have 33% fat lol.
