Mexican foods
Gkcfm95, what is NC's without tortilla wrap?
Since it's almost impossible to get nutrition info from most restaurants I estimate it by what's on my plate. You'll have to adjust this for what your restaurant serves, but mine usually looks like 4oz chicken, 1/2 lg tomato, onion & bell pepper. I also add 1 Tbsp of veg oil, since I assume they added some kind of fat to cook it all. Using the food diary on here that comes out to cals: 309kcal | fat: 15.39g | carbs: 14.95g | prot: 28.38g Fiber 3.5g and NC 11.45g most of the carbs are from the onions

Mexican foods
I usually get fajitas, my local restaurant serves it in a skillet. just meat, peppers, onions & tomatoes (all Atkins safe) with tortillas on the side. skip the tortillas and any rice, beans and chips.

Anyone here get heartburn regularly?
have you read any work from Chris Kresser? http://chriskresser.com/what-e... I finally got my husband to try HCl capsules instead of the zantac and it really does work. He usually takes 2 with dinner, but he can also take them after the heartburn first starts and they work in about 20 min. I also second the gluten & low carb suggestions, it's always worse if he has pasta, a lot of bread or pizza.

Athletic/Age Related BMI Calculator
I know you wanted something to account for your muscle, but for those whom are still overweight I like this one http://www.bmi-calculator.net/... it breaks down overweight, obese class 1 & obese class 2 This gave me a more achievable goal than just going from obese to "normal" weight

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
This is the ball I got at [url=http://www.walmart.com/ip... It's 75cm, which was the biggest I could find, and was $8.97. It's perfectly fine for sitting, but it's not tall enough for me to use with a desk. I'm 5'6" and the box says it's for 5'11" and taller. I'm glad I didn't get the one that it says for my height. If I was going to use it as a desk chair I would build something like this frame here to make it taller http://www.instructables.com/i... But I definitely love the treadmill more!

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
Kelly - the numbers don't work that way. Walking at 2mph and standing still burn the same number of calories (according to FS) - so walking at 1 mph is going to be the same as well. Don't cut those 8 hours in half unless you have reason to disagree with the number provided. Give yourself the credit you deserve!
Thanks Zeb, I just wish the exercise diary had a 1 mph option! I was going to try to adjust the time to match the calories burned on my treadmill display once I'm finished for the day, but my wonderful son decided to use it while I was fixing lunch and pulled out the safety key and reset everything! I guess I'll have to try again tomorrow...

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
I went for it!! Finally got the treadmill and setup my desk. Since I can't log walking at 1 mph, I put 2 mph for 4 hrs. We'll see how close that matches to the treadmill numbers. I'm only a half hour in, but I can already tell it's going to be a long day!

Was the gain worth it?
I totally agree. Sometimes you need to relax and enjoy those "forbidden" foods. I ate so much chocolate, peanut butter fudge & pecan pie that I'm sick of it and I'm actually looking forward to the healthy stuff again. But for me it was totally worth it!

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
so I picked up a ball at [url=http://www.walmart.com/ip... I figured for $9 it was worth a try. it's just a little shorter than what my desk chair is. I'm hoping I can either pump more air in it once the rubber stretches out. or maybe build a frame like this http://www.instructables.com/i... still hoping to get a treadmill in the next few weeks

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
I definitely need to wake up those core muscles too! I have thought of using an exercise ball also, but was hoping to burn some more calories. I work 8 hrs a day and know I won't be able to walk the whole time. Maybe I can alternate between them, for when my legs get wobbly...:) Do they make the balls big enough for desk height? This is the treadmill I'm looking at. It's not the cheapest, but seems the nicest out of the under $500 range. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold...

Anyone out there use a treadmill desk?
A while back I came across an article about using a treadmill desk. Right now I sit 8 hrs a day, so I know anything is better than what I do now. I work from home, so it's totally do-able and I have the space. I've thought about it off and on, but not sure if I want to make the investment in a treadmill. I've tried raising my desk so I can stand and type and I can do that for about an hour, then my legs get restless and my lower back gets a little sore. But I'm not sure if it would be better walking. Any thoughts??

Diabetes Type II and Intermittent Fasting
this is anecdotal, but thought I would add it to the thread. http://shurie.com/lee/writing_... "Now, diabetics who take insulin or other medications cannot skip meals because of the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). However, Type II diabetics WHO ARE NOT ON INSULIN OR MEDICATION generally have HIGH blood sugar rather than low. The risk of low blood sugar levels is very low in these individuals." "I had finally discovered a method that keeps my blood sugar levels at or close to the normal range. Diabetes was defeated! I naturally lost weight, and also began to experience many quality-of-life benefits which I did not expect, as well as marked improvement in measurements such as cholesterol and blood pressure."

Add custom recipe
you can do this 2 different ways. on the right side of the food entry page, towards the bottom you can create a "My Favorite Meal" then when you add this to your food diary it will add each food item individually. i use this for things i change the ingredients frequently, like a salad or omelet. the other way is to add them to My Cookbook, also on the food diary page. then click where it says submit a recipe, at the top. for this you add each ingredient and the number of servings for the dish. if you choose to share this recipe could go in the database for others. or you can keep private.

Diabetes Type II and Intermittent Fasting
I also find this subject interesting. Preventing diabetes is kind of what started this journey a few years ago. My mother & uncle are both bad type II diabetics, so my chances WERE (I hope) pretty good of also developing it. My mom is now on insulin shots & battles rounds of MRSA every year or so and my uncle had his foot/mid-calf amputated a couple years ago. Though both of them continue to eat fast food, frozen/boxed dinners and all around crap. I am determined to not travel that road! I have heard of people doing Atkins that have controlled their readings enough to come off medication. However, I do not know IF those same people went back to eating more carbs if their bodies could process it or if they would need meds again. There are numerous health benefits to intermittent fasting. Maybe it's the missing link? Fasting + low carb + wise food choices = healed And to comment on one of your questions about why diabetics couldn't maintain fasting I think is because of their medication. If not monitored properly they could over medicate on a fast day, because there's no insulin spike. And under medicate on a regular day, especially if they give in to food cravings because of the fast.

Low carb diet-Confused
when you first start Atkins most people usually lose a lot of weight the first few weeks. most is water weight due to your body adjusting to the new healthy food & lifestyle. if you think your calories are too low try adding more fat...butter, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado. your body needs fat, just give it the good kind. there are differing opinions on the minimum amount of calories needed, but I'll offer 1200 as a general guide. 1500-1800 is a good range to shoot for, but don't stress if you don't get it exact or make yourself eat if you aren't hungry. i usually have a few low days & high days...i might eat a lot one day and not as much the next. do it more on how you feel. I lost about 30 lbs on Atkins then converted to more of a Paleo way of eating

Change in Bathroom Habits
try eating more fermented & live culture foods to build up the bacteria in your gut. yogurt & kefir have probiotics. homemade sauerkraut is great! i eat it almost every day.
