What a challange..
Keep going.... calorie counting is hard, but using a smartphone app or journal helps. I love the app, keeps me in check all day. I have lost over 25 pounds calorie counting and I am still going.

sweets!!
It will take about 2 weeks of clean eating, with no added sugars to start to curb your sweet tooth. I noticed that when I up my protein intake and lower my carb intake it helps.

Atkins and foot/leg cramps
If it is potassium, have your bloodwork checked so they can guide you into the right dosage for a supplement. I have potassium issues and it is dangerous to play around with potassium supplements without medical advice....too much or too little is harmful.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh daily, but it is to catch problems before they happen. I know that it will fluctuate. In fact, here is a great example.... On Saturday I weighed in at 175. I ate some salty food (chinese) for dinner, Sunday I weighed in at 176. I knew why, I retain water very quickly. On Sunday I also did 20 mile road ride, so my muscles were sore. On Monday, I weighed in at 178.4. But by yesterday the water weight was gone, the muscle swelling is gone and bam, I am at 174 now. The whole time, I was watching what I eat, keeping to my portions sizes and calorie intake, but it was the type of food and exercise that I did, that caused a false weight gain. I record my weight once to twice a week, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays and on a weekend day.

I have tried to reply to a post, twice and I am not able to. I have not received any warnings or anything. I haven't been out of line, I am just trying to help my fellow dieters. What's going on?

Designer Whey has a good one and the 100% Whey Powder from GNC is great (flavors like Cookies and Cream, Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate). I use Whole Gains which I buy at GNC as well. I love the chocolate, and vanilla, but they have a watermelon and mango as well.

Losing weight
I use a whey protein powder called Whole Gains (GNC and a few other places) and make it with milk. Very yummy, almost like a milkshake. That is my breakfast. For lunch I have a steamfresh veggie by Green Giant and a 5-6oz greek yogurt (flavored, can't stand plain), dinner is usually a chicken/lean meat and veggie. I don't really eat fast food anymore, only when I have too and I research on my app like crazy before I order. I usually stick with Subway and the chicken breast 6in sub. I stay away from Lean Cuisine meals and etc.... because they are more carb based than I like. Also loaded with sodium and preservatives. I also don't eat cereals, except for the occasional bowl of oatmeal, because I crash after eating too many carbs. I don't worry about my fat intake actually. I average about 30 grams of fats a day, but I am also averaging 80-90 grams of protein as well. With carbs, I try to stay under 150 g. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but the main number I look for is my calorie intake and protein intake. Here are the protein that I suggest Chicken breast (whole and ground) pork tenderloin turkey breast (whole or ground) extra lean ground beef (94%/6% or better) tuna fish/tilapia/salmon protein powder for a quick meal canned chicken or frozen ready to eat chicken breast strips Many of these protein you can find already cooked, but they will have less sodium in them if you cook them. The fish is easy to cook, just bake it and it is good, use a crockpot for chicken and you don't even have to think about it and there are tons of low calorie recipes for chicken in a crockpot. Do you have a smartphone, blackberry or iPhone?? If so, you have a scan option and you can scan it. If they don't have it at all in the database, look for a comparable item in calories and nutritional information. Otherwise you can add it to the database, on the app you can scroll to the bottom of the search screen and it says add a new food and somewhere on the site you can do it too.... it is in the food diary area.

Losing weight
To the OP. I live on 1200 calories a day. I also eat about 80-100 grams of protein a day. I measure and weigh everything. I try use the manufacturers nutrition info when possible. For Breakfast I have a protein shake for 290 calories and 32 grams of protein almost every morning. Gets my day off to a good start. Most of my carbs are from Veggies and Dairy. It is hard, but I also try to maintain a daily calorie deficit of 600 or more. Some days it is hard. If you look at my log, I had about 5 days when I blew through my RDI, but I have to get myself back on track and keep going. I log everything, even if it is going to make my tracker red. It keeps me honest and prevents me from keeping up the trend. I also suggest taking a good multivitamin, especially if you are deficient in any vitamins and minerals. I have a potassium issue, so I that is why I take them. I also do not drink soda, none at all. I drink only water or tea, because of the side effects that I get from Diet Soda. I have actually experienced aspartame disease. I hope that this helps. If you want any help, just message me. It can be done, but it takes a lot of patience. It took a while before the weight would move on me as well. I am only 5 foot tall.

Whey Protein - Any good for losing Fat?
I use a whey protein powder from GNC that is called Whole Gains. It is made to be a meal replacement. I make it with 8 oz skim milk and it very filling. In total, when made with milk it has 32 grams of protein, 290 calories, 26.88 carbs. I am not sure about net carbs (I don't do Atkins). This powder also has fiber in it to make it a meal replacement. I know some people will not agree with me, but I love having this in the morning as a way to fuel my body. It is great for breakfast and is very filling. I hope this helps.

Bike for bad backs
Look into a Comfort bike. Giant and Specialized make these. They are bikes where you are upright and not leaning over. Very nice bikes. I ride a road bike and a commuter bike and both are not good for bad backs, but my husband has the comfort and he never had any back pain with it. Check them out at the local bike store.

1300 and 1400 calorie diet
I would just calorie count with a higher protein, lower carb diet. I am on 1200 calories a day and I eat between 80 and 100 grams of lean protein a day. I don't really count carbs, because I get most my carbs from fruits and veggies and dairy.
