Summer B.E.A.C.H. Challenge!
Its Friday!!! Drum roll please: the scales have announced the long awaited drop: this morning the scales showed a new number--249-- 3 lbs this week!!!! my chinese food was a broccoli stir fry with dinner last night. That all the adventure my husband would buy into. my sport was the speed walking, have you seen those guys walk, and hips going side to side?? I lasted 2 laps around the atrium then had to reach for the aleve. tally for week 4 S 8/9 5 pts S 8/10 3 pts M 8/11 4 pts T 8/12 5 pts W 8/13 5 pts T 8/14 5 pts F weigh in 249!!! going for 5 again today. 8) I am still amazed how walking 15 minutes in the am and then in the pm has finally become do-able. I CAN walk further than from the parking lot to my office!!!

Summer B.E.A.C.H. Challenge!
:d If I could give myself more than 5 points for yesterday, I would! I had a job interview downtown Dallas yesterday and like any large downtown area parking is hard to find. Well, I had to park several blocks away, up a steep hill. I walked the several blocks without pausing and without panting! I couldn't have done that a couple of weeks ago! This BEACH challenge had me trying more walking out side my comfort zone (water walking is great for my arthritis) and it has paid off! I got to my interview on time, no sweating, no hard breathing, did a good interview AND then walked back to car after checking out city hall across the street! Still without hurting and without breathing hard! sooooo... Monday 8/11 4 pts TUES 8/12 5 pts +++++ 8)

Summer B.E.A.C.H. Challenge!
Taking time to check in: Friday 8/8 4 pts Saturday 8/9 5 pts Sunday 8/10 3 pts Monday 8/11 4 pts I am happy not having to go "somewhere" today. Between Wed and Saturday last week I have driven about 575 miles, plus 3 inspections and one college graduation! I feel like Alan Jackson's song "I've been everywhere!" , and I never left the state! Today is all desk work, writing reports on last weeks inspection visits. Tomorrow I have a job interview in downtown Dallas, I know I will get all my walking in tomorrow as there is very little parking around the federal building I am headed to. gotta to remember to wear comfortable shoes..... And next week I "get" to go to Austin for the week, again lots of walking. Maybe I better see the chiropractor this week! I have really keep to my B.E.A.C.H.E.S. for the past 3 weeks but I don't feel I have much to show for it. My exercise is limited by my arthiritis and the city rec center's pool is only having children's swimming lessons in the evening, so my intended water walking didn't happen. So walking without the water is a big challenge to me, well at least walking without it hurting or the hurt lasting the rest of day and evening. I have increased my ability to walk around the building atrium for 15-20 minutes without it hurting but anymore takes a toll on me. My ankles are so swollen right now, don't know what the water gain is from but it been there for 2 weeks! guess I will get brave and step on the scales tomorrow.... but I don't expect much with the water gain. hope the rest of my team is doing better than I am.

BLUE LAGOONIE LOONIES: SUMMER B.E.A.C.H. CHALLENGE
Blue Tally F 8/1 5! S 8/2 5! S 8/3 3 M 8/4 4 T 8/5 4 Work has 12 hours of my time everyday this week, ugh! Traveling out of town for 3 days, wed, thurs, & fri. Saturday I am driving half way across the state (Texas) to see my cousin's daughter graduate from college. I am drinking 64+ oz of water daily, not hard with the temp over 100 for the last couple of weeks. Hope everyone is having a good & successful week

Blue Tally - 2nd week S 7/26 5 pts S 7/27 3 pts M 7/28 4 pts T 7/29 4 pts W 7/30 5 pts T 7/31 4 pts weigh in Friday am, 252 stayed the same :? Strawberries & Peaches Slice and trim equal amounts of fresh Strawberries and fresh Peaches in bowl. Sprinkle Splenda over sliced fruit. Mix together, refrigerate for a least 1 hour. Enjoy! This has been the first empty dish everytime this summer! For Atkins, after induction, you can work in an occassional serving of fruit. The hard part is limiting the serving size. If other carbs have been limited for the day, I can enjoy a cup of fresh Texas grown fruit! STRAWBERRIES--strawberries are great—they boast fiber, more vitamin C than any other berry, and 1 cup of fresh whole strawberries has a respectable 35 micrograms of folate, the powerful B vitamin that creates normal red blood cells and is crucial for prenatal development. The anthocyanidins found in these ruby mouthfuls also help protect against heart disease. PEACHES--the essence of fresh, healthy and delicious. Plus, peaches are low in calories (about 60 each), contain no sodium or cholesterol, and offer a nice helping of vitamins and antioxidants, which are thought to protect the body from aging, heart disease and some cancers. I got nutrient info from eatingwell.com. lots of good info & recipes at this site. :)

50 LB WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE - WELCOME
Surprise! Look whose here! Me! This summer hasn't been easy for me: work's numerous out of town trips, work's terrible and long reports, city rec's pool reserved evening for swimming lessons only, mad scramble to apply for rare opportunity/job, inlaws 50th wedding anniversery (I was drafted by the planning group), vacation/family reunion, my jewelry hobby/business, lots of back pain, ................. Well I have decide enough already, I have gained and lost the same 5 lbs 3 times since June! I gotta regain some control and commitment. I started with the BEACHES challenge last week and getting back in touch with you guys this week. I have been reading thru 30 :!: pages of posts WOW I will try ti catch up: 1. Currently I am trying for at least 15 min exercise everyday, the goal is greater than 30 min but the arthritis (knees, hips, lower back) and neutropathy in my back causes pain which limits me on this one. 2. I am gradually increasing the numer of times I can walk around the atrium at work. My best workouts are in the pool but my exercise hours are taken up with kids swimming lessons :( 3. I DO drink 64 or more oz of water each day, water is usually my drink of choice. 4. I DO get 7-8 hours of sleep most nights. 5. Atkins is a life style change for me, M-F: 20 carbs or less per day. Most weekends the same. Though every once in awhile a margarita calls me :) 6. My husband cooks dinner most nights: he can do anything with a marinade and the George Foreman grill! DH evens does salads and SF jello too. I did post a SF cheesecake filling in the FS cookbook. 7. I can't do long walks or stairs but I will look into the resistance training stuff. 8. the 99 questions:?:, maybe I will get to those later  9. abs?? I currently have too much tummy and back pain to do this like you guys did. 10. After I heard my friend is basically limited to 1/2 cup of applesauce, or other soft food, for the rest of her life, I knew gastric bypass was not a choice for me. I am trying to re-focus. I want to have lost 50 lbs by Christmas. I want to get back to exercising regularly. I want NOT to be in pain all the time. And, I also I know I would have given up a long time ago if not for the support of my FS friends! This week's goal: post here at least once a week. Keep a journal/log of all exercise and food eaten.

Guar / Xanthan
I found Xanthan at a local health food. I have used it a couple of times. I apparently have not gained the right techique to used this product correctly. It thicken up but not the rest of the sauce. I had better luck the 2nd time using the hand blender. It doesn't work like cornstarch.....

BLUE LAGOONIE LOONIES: SUMMER B.E.A.C.H. CHALLENGE
Did my weigh in this morning----lost 1 lb despite TOM and water gain this week!!! Yesterday the office had its annual regional meeting and I was able to WALK the 3 blocks to the meeting without stopping and without hurting! It didn't take 30 minutes to and back so being true to my point system, yesterday is 4 pts. But I feel like a WINNER, a few months ago I would never had been able to that, at least not without severe and tearful pain. My coworkers even noticed the improvement! I am still getting 4 pts each day, BUT I want a 5!!! To get the 5, I need a couple more hours each day, oh well, guess I am going to have to re-evaluate my priorities, adjust my daily routines, and say NO to something--or maybe just NO to myself. Gotta get back to the pool. Walking is okay and easier than it has been the past but without the water support for my joints and back, after 4 days my knees, hips and back are beginning to scream with pain. ok I am gonna have to suck it up and get tough!!! Ksmith, hope today goes better for you and your son. Maybe the stress took care of those pancakes. Laurel Lu, WOW you are doing Great! I am going to use your success as my motivation to get a 5 pointer! Ms Lifeguard, please, please don't turn that "angry" face my way! LOL

Summer B.E.A.C.H. Challenge!
Blue Lagoonie Loonies Tally As a last minute add-on, time for me to catch up: Banned excuse: I can't get to the rec center by 6pm so I don't have enough time for my workout. My preferred workout: 1.5 hours in the pool with water walking, water aerobics and swimming. These are the perfect exercises for the arthritis that starts at my feet and works it self up my legs and lower back. New habit: If I have 30 minutes, I have time! I have defined my daily points as 1 pt for <20 carbs / day (Atkins) 1 pt for 64 oz water 1 pt for 7 hrs sleep 1 pt for 15 min of exercise 1 pt for > 30 min exercise 7/21 beginning weight: 253 M 7/21 4 pts T 7/22 4 pts W 7/23 4 pts As soon as TOM packs his bags and moves on so I can get in the pool, we're gonna see some 5's! Walking in the pool is easier than walking laps in the office atrium.
