Things I can do now...
I can wear shorts and tank tops this summer without being embarassed at the jiggle. After lots of yoga I can do a few pushups which I have never been able to do in the past, even when I was very young and skinny. No upper body strength. That is a huge deal for me!

Cool Weight Calculator
This put me at normal of 158 which would put me in a size 16 or so. I think by 'normal' they mean average, as in the average weight for someone 44 yrs old and 5'4" tall. I don't think this is a 'recommended' weight but cumulative statistic.

Phase one does not allow any grain. I'm quoting from the book 'grilled or broiled lean meats and fish, vegis, low fat cheeses and salads, all either steamed of prepared using good fats such as olive oil and canola oil. For snacks, nuts and part-skim mozzarell sticks, and that's about it.'

Normal healthy eaters?
I agree that it is dangereous to eat too few caloies. However, you can eat a very healthy and balanced diet for less than 1000 calories. I was 148 when I joined weigh watchers and my limit was 20pts per day which translates to 1000 calories. I learned that if I stuck to whole food diet of a serving of lean protein, one of whole grain and lots of vegis, it was very easy to stick to stay within the guidelines. I even had to add food to increase up to the 20pts sometimes. This also included two servings of milk a day. What you have to remember is that the calories required and burned depends on your current weight. At 130 my body burns only about 1450 per day with no exercise and at 148 it was about 1550 so restricting to 1000 gave me a loss of about 1.5 per week which is well within guidelines. I do agree that the sideline of 'compare yourself to others' takes an extreme low and while I will argue until I'm blue that I can eat plenty and healthy on 900 to 1000 per day, no one can convince me that 400 is safe.

CALORIE INTAKE?
When you signed up here you were prompted for your height and weight. If you go to your exercise calendar, it will give you a very accurate number of calories that your body burns during sleep and rest. You can add in exercise easily to recalculate. This will show you how many calories you burn so you will get an idea of how many you can eat to maintain or to lose. I burn about 1450 without any exercise so if I want to maintain I have to stay below this and if I want to lose I have to keep it to about 1000 per day. A pound is equal to 3500 calories so if you slash it by 500 calories a day you should lose about 1 lb every week. Of course this is the ideal situation but it gives you a good place to start. I do better weighing in every day when I am trying to lose. An increase makes me work harder and a decrease encourages me to keep going.

What type of exercises can I do without leaving the house?
Find some DVD's that you like and alternate them. I suggest Kristen McGee Power Yoga and Windsor Pilates. I also have a cheap pneumatic stair climber that I got at the local sporting goods store for about $70 that I can set in front of the TV.

Okay, I just skimmed the article and still don't know the answer. Is this because I am not focusing or does it just not give an answer???? I have wondered the same. My walking has been less challanging but I don't know if that's because it has cooled outside or because I have lost weight and am in better shape. I know that walking in the heat and sweating feels more productive and if I don't sweat, I don't feel like I have worked hard enough. It does help to change up the routine a little with fast paced music and speed walking spurts but even that is easier now. I need to do some reading on this one.

Weight Loss of 1.2 lbs in 1 Day?
Has to be fluid which is controlled by so many things. Sodium, TOM, exercise and medications to name a few. I do weigh each day and can predict the scale based on my diet and exercise in the three or so previous days. It will balance out.
