Helping one another
You have done a lot of good out here for over a year E. Way to attack it head on and get the facts on the table. Not sure what the agenda of a post like this is...but you have a long track record out here that speaks for itself.

Weight Loss advice for someone who is genetically predisposed to be overweight?!
If you are in weight loss mode..I think you are fighting yourself by giving yourself a pass on the weekend. You spend the entire week trying to make up for the weekend and that is a frustrating battle. I used to play the same game and made very little progress. If you are serious about wanting to lose weight you will do it...but it is just one excuse after another (genetics, desk job, cost of food, don't like veggies, RDI calc is jacked up, pain in the a$$ to track on weekends etc). You absolutely can do this if you want it....but you are not going to get there with a plan that includes 2000 calories during the week and no rules on the weekend. If you did something like 1500 to 1800 per day with some walking/light exercise mixed in you would be on your way. Best of Luck..you have this!

RUNNING ADVICE!
It's definetley a balancing act. The line between soreness & pain is difficult to determine. That is why these distance events are such a meatgrinder. Getting to raceday is 90% of the battle....we simply can't shut down and rest for two weeks every time we are banged up. So although RICE is the perfect answer....ICE (+ibuprofen) is the reality more often than not.
