I can't figure it out!
I don't think you're not giving it enough time. You just joined 10 days ago. It helps if you only weigh-in once a week - same time of day wearing same clothes, etc. You'll lose weight over time. Usually 1-2 pounds a week. If you weigh everyday, you might get frustrated due to regular weight fluctuations due to lack of sleep, PMS, sodium, if you've pooped... Also, if you ask for help from the forums, it helps if you tell us your current weight, height and if you share your diet calendar. That way the people who are helping can make a more educated guess as to what may be going on.

Boston Marathon
I know that this sounds strange, but after this happened I want to run a marathon. It's always been something that has slightly tickled by brain, but now I'm resolved to do it. I don't think I'll be running the Boston, but I'll definitely be looking into one closer to home.

Restarting a diet after weight gain
I gained back 16 pounds of my 53 I lost a year ago. I restarted in March. Surgery and injuries lead to my falling from lifestyle grace. I have to say that getting the weight off this time is a bit trickier and it's coming off much slower. Don't get discouraged if it is harder this time. Every little bit helps.

recipies for left over roast beef?
Soup! I love making a really good beef soup. Roastbeef onion potatoes or barley canned tomatoes beef broth frozen veggies. Cook your chopped and skinned taters (or barley) and onions in the beef broth until they are a few minutes to done. Add the other ingredients. Super easy and super delicious (low cal too)

Egg Receipe/Breakfast
You don't have to eat "breakfast foods" for breakfast. I usually eat chicken legs, soup, or a (non-cured) bratwurst. I've got celiac disease and can't eat most grains and I'm allergic to eggs and dairy -- so that's about every single traditional breakfast food out there. OK, the point I'm trying to make is that you shouldn't feel limited to traditional breakfast foods at breakfast time.

Dairy Allergies
I have dairy allergies, but I don't do atkins. I also can't have gluten, so I pretty much follow a paleo-style diet.

Too much or just right?
What eKatherine said. To lose 1 pound a day, you'd have to be at a 3500 calorie deficit every day. That's just not realistic - even for a starvation diet. Slow and steady wins the weight loss race. I took 50 weeks to lose 53 pounds.

Where'd all the nastiness come from?
One of the reasons I chose FS over other sites like Livestrong, WeightWatchers, and MyFitnessPal is that the people of FS are totally awesome and so supportive of their fellow losers. It is really disturbing to me to see how nasty things have gotten on the boards. I've been here for about 2 years now and this is the worst it's ever been. Everyone should remember that they were new to weight loss themselves at one point and there is so much misinformation out the on the web that it's hard to figure out what's true and what isn't. So, what do you do? You ask people with more experience than yourself. And then on FS forums, you now get shot down for being stupid. I hope that this behavior doesn't continue. As a community, we should discourage this behavior of meanness. -- And as always - don't feed the trolls. If a thread goes nasty, it's best to just walk away. Some people just want attention - whether negative or positive, because they don't know the difference.

Calculate Calories on Homemade Beef Jerky
If you're going to be making your own jerky and not using a lot of salt. (Salt is what allows you to eat uncooked, dried meat) I recommend that you freeze the meat for a couple of weeks to try to kill any nasty microbials. Of course, that's still no guarantee that you'll make it safe to eat. And keep the jerky either frozen or in the refrigerator. It will go bad faster than high-salt jerky.

Flax seeds, chia seeds are also a great source. And of course most nuts are great! I add Chia seeds to my yogurt, which makes it a bit thicker and gelatinous. Also if you get flax seeds, get the kind that are partially ground. Flax seeds will go straight through you without any benefit if they aren't broken apart. You'll just have some very expensive poop. :-)

Hello - Looking to Challenge Myself
Welcome! Congrats in advance on your 5K. I did my first one a year ago. My husband keeps asking me why I pay to run - when it's free. I tell him, "It's all about the bibs, baby!" After injuring myself last year, I'm finally free to run again and I'm running 12 races in 12 months. From Feb2013 to Feb2014 I'm looking to earn 12 bibs. My best advice to you on losing that 40 pounds is to set realistic expectations. It took me 50 weeks to lose 53 pounds.

I think it's weight related - not a standard of so many glasses. Plus some people then add in activity level and environment variables. There's tons of calculators online.
