Not technically a diet question - husband troubles
I left my husband after 21 years together. It was the most difficult time of my life. My husband started coming around about 2-3 months after I left but by then it was too late for me. I gave it all I had before I walked out the door. I hope you can find a way to work through this. If he won't get counseling, maybe you should. At least you can say YOU tried.

Preparing and serving foods tailored for someone with IBS
Thanks for the wonderful article. I know most of this from doing a lot of research for my condition but I definitely could use a reminder. I have suffered pretty bad for about 3 days now after eating bad foods. I'm giving up carbonated beverages, coffee, and definitely fried foods. I saw my GI yesterday and he is recommending I try Align for one month. "Align is the #1 Gastroenterologist-Recommended... probiotic supplement that helps you build and maintain a stronger, healthier digestive system." I told him that I have tried probiotics but he is insistent that this one is different because it has Bifantis. "In two separate studies, Bifantis was clinically proven to help build and maintain a healthier digestive system by defending against this full range of digestive episodes.* I'm hoping it's the answer but I know I have a lot of control if I just eat the right foods.

IBS ... do you have it?
What works for me is staying away from foods high in fat and sugar. It is important for me to have enough fiber in my diet as it helps control the diarrhea AND constipation. As for Crohn's Disease, I guess I have been very lucky. It's one of those things that can be very severe or very mild. Although I had a severe episode and thought I was doomed for life, I've been very blessed with a long remission. It's important not to dwell on the illness and keep a positive attitude. Having IBS makes it hard to know when it's CD or IBS affecting my tummy. My GI keeps a good check on me though so I rest easy knowing it's all ok. When my IBS was at its worst, I took Colestid and it did the trick. Colestid is a medicine which absorbs bile acids from the intestines. In most people bile acids are absorbed after digestion, but if you have had your gallbladder removed you may produce too much bile and need extra help from medications. In my case, having intestinal surgery caused too much bile.

IBS ... do you have it?
I have CD and had emergency surgery about 12 years ago to remove part of my colon and small bowel. I now suffer from IBS as a result of the surgery. What I eat makes a HUGE difference in how my stomach acts. Stress will certainly aggravate IBS but I don't have much stress in my life since my kids are grown and I retired! BTW, I've been in remission for 12 years. Biopsy confirmed my diagnosis of CD but I don't suffer from it now. Hope it stays away! :)

Splenda Update
Very interesting article. I am especially interested in the claim that Splenda destroys “good” intestinal bacteria. I have been taking a probiotic as directed by the gastrointestinal doctor due to tummy problems. I wonder if Splenda has anything to do with it.

CONFESSIONS!!!!
Bully - at least you got the dark chocolate (antioxidant) and the peanuts (good fat) instead of an alternative candy with no nutritional value. I think you needed some comfort today. (((Hugs))) BTW, I had FF cream cheese, lite Cool Whip and strawberry dessert, 2 sugar free puddings, loads more Cool Whip, banana, and almonds before 1:00 pm today. I'm over it now. Pudding is now banned from my house. I'll have to work on a strict limit of the cream cheese dessert. I think of that as ok since it is protein and fruit.

What's your Real Age?
My sister told me about Realage.com last December. I took their test and tested out to be close to my actual age (49 at the time). I just took the test again and my results were as follows: Actual age: 50.4 Difference: -5.8 Realage: 44.6 It said I could improve even more by doing some of the following: Flossing every day instead of 3 times a week Eating at least 5 servings of vegetables every day Take daily vitamin as well as increase the following: Vitamin C & E Folate Potassium Folid Acid If you would like to take the test and share your results, click here: [url=http://www.realage.com/re... Let us know how you're doing. It's enlightening to see your progress over time.

Trip to Vegas
I would probably come alone depending on the dates but hubby might come if the schedule works for him. He will be out of work for surgery in December so he won't want to miss much work later on.

Breakfast ideas on phase1
There is a delicious recipe for belgian waffles/pancakes on this site. They are made with ricotta cheese and eggs and taste really good. I used a Walden Farms zero calorie syrup with them when I was in phase I and had canadian or turkey bacon with it. My husband even gobbled them up.

Thyroid medication and dieting
I had my thyroid removed over a year ago and had a hard time getting my meds just right. I went from being hypo to hyperthyroid. I think I've got them straight now. I didn't notice any rapid weight loss when I was hyper. When I was hypo I was gaining a good bit because I was so lethargic so all I did was sit around and eat. I strongly urge you to get your labs tested on a regular basis to make sure you are on the right level of meds. I went about 6 months w/o getting my levels checked and I was way out of whack after being okay on my previous labs. You might want them to check you for diabetes too.

artificial sugars/stevia/other natural sugars
I like to read Wikipedia when I'm researching something because it usually gives all sides of the story. From what I read about Splenda, I am as comfortable using it as anything else out there. Here's a link to the article I read and an excerpt below: [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/w... "Sucralose has been accepted by several national and international food safety regulatory bodies, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Joint Food and Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization Expert Committee on Food Additives, The European Union's Scientific Committee on Food, Health Protection Branch of Health and Welfare Canada and Food Standards Australia-New Zealand (FSANZ). Sucralose is the only artificial sweetener ranked as "safe" by the consumer advocacy group Center for Science in the Public Interest.[13][14] According to the Canadian Diabetes Association, one can consume 15 mg/kg/day of Sucralose "on a daily basis over a ... lifetime without any adverse effects".[15] For a 150 lb person, 15 mg/kg is about 1 g, equivalent to about 75 packets of Splenda or the sweetness of 612 gm or 2500 kcal of sugar." Seems like there is an issue with most anything we eat nowadays but I'm doing far better than I used to do!

"WHY THE SCALE LIES"
I added this article to my favorites a few months ago regarding the fluctuation of scales. I thought some of you might enjoy reading it as it explains why the scales fluctuate so much from day to day even when you are doing all the right things. wii fit?
Wii Active is a lot more hardcore than Wii fit. Wii fit is more fun, working out but still has a light game feel. Wii Active is more like having a personal trainer.

Veggies, veggies and more veggies. The more I eat the more I lose! I've been making lots of soup with lots of veggies and ground turkey or cubed cooked chicken.
