can you recommend a good bathroom scale ?
UPDATE: I bought a FitBit Aria scale and I love it. It relays my weight to fitbit.com. I also purchased a FitBit one which will track my activity. Should keep me very well monitored and I can see where my exercise gaps are.

Yes, i bought my digital scale at Ebay. It was like 20 dollars and it has worked for over 3 years. It doesn't have to be pricey to work well. The key is weighing yourself around the same time everyday (if you do everyday weighings) and in the same location (for me its the bathroom). that way you control the factors for measurement and you will get consistency in measurements.

Ok, first things first. Whatever you get, make sure its a digital scale. Something where you can see the weight in at least tenths of a lb/kg. Those old spring loaded dials are hard to read. Secondly, always weigh yourself at the same time everyday. Me, I prefer to weigh myself in the morning when I get up. That is why I keep mine in the bathroom. Brush teeth then weigh myself...Good luck in your search for a scale.

Getting Close
Congrats! I completely understand the CPAP thing. I use one and when you strap that thing on you feel like Darth Vader. It does provide a comfortable sleep but you hate that you have to wear it. Last night, I didn't wear mine and I don't think I snored at all. While my throat was kinda sore this morning, I don't feel like I was snorring. I cannot wait till I have hit my goal weight and do not need the CPAP anymore. Good luck to you and I hope you lose those final nine pounds!

Cravings
I have been craving chocolate. So I budget my caloric intake to allow for a hershey's chocolate bar (210 calories). The thing that kills me are birthdays and parties....when cake and other goodies are flying about, I partake and that messes me up. OH..almost forgot vacations...those vacations mess me up with cravings.

What's your Danger Food?
Sweets especially chocolate. I LOVE chocolate. However, the real weight gain for me occurs when I eat bread, pasta, potatoes or rice. The starchy carbs are what make me zoom up in weight. If i stick to protein, veggies, and fruit I will see my weight come down. Also, no liquid calories...I used to drink soda and fruit juices..now its straight water.

Exercise section
I wonder how far off the calorie number is? I mean is it off 300, 500, 800 calories? I was always told it was your weight times ten. Now, I don't know if that is a practical measure but seemed to make sense at the time.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh myself first thing in the morning every day. If i do not weigh myself it breaks my routine of weighing myself daily and recording everything I eat. Those two activities have kept me honest about my weight.

Weighing frequency?
Don't give up. A plateau is just your body resting and resisting your weight loss. At times the plateau is caused by constipation, a slowing metabolism or dehydration. You need to remind yourself that its just a pause and not a full fledged stop. I weigh myself everyday and when i start to feel like giving up I just whip out a picture of the old me and that does the trick. When you stall make sure that you drink plenty of water, go to the bathroom when nature calls don't wait, and be patient. I have hit plateaus but ultimately you overcome them. Stay positive and when in doubt whip out an old picture for motivation.

Duodenal Switch
Wow, so I just read up on that procedure. It is involved but seems like you only absorb 20% of the fat you eat. Amazing and it reduces your stomach size by 70%. Congrats to you. I don't think I would get that type of surgery but I applaud those who do as it looks to work. Anyway congrats on the massive weight loss and hope you lose the rest too.

CPAP
I am also on a Cpap. I never felt tired before it BUT my wife noticed that I sometimes sounded like i was without breath for a few seconds. SO when I went in for my sleep test I have great levels of oxygen in my blood but I was a chronic snorer. The doctor told me that once I lost weight I would not have to use the cpap. I have been on it for about two plus years. It definately helps me sleep better and the wife gets a great night sleep without me snoring. On the occasion I didn't use a CPAP i woke up with a sore throat which is indicative of snoring. Use the CPAP and then when you lose the weight you can stop its use.

Advice welcome
Hmm, even though you are a vegetarian, you could be indulging in foods that are high in carbs and convert easily into sugar. I know for me the trick was avoiding starchy carbs like bread, pasta and rice. Look at what you normally eat and see what the level of glutens and starchy carbs are. Potatoes, breads, pasta and rice are the typical culprits.

Do you eat breakfast? How important is it?
I'll be honest. I am not hungry in the morning. I am usually hungriest by mid day during lunch. I don't think you should force yourself to eat if you aren't hungry. Additionally, for me, I try and make Lunch the biggest (calorie wise) meal of the day for me. For dinner, I try to keep it as low calorie as I can...especially if I am eating after 7pm. But I don't think you NEED to eat breakfast...its more of a personal preference. By the way, I love the Facebook to greek debt correlation chart. Spectacular. You can do anything with statistics!

What meal / time do you consume most of your calories?
For me, Breakfast is a rarity. I consume the vast majority of my calories during lunch. By dinner time, I am usually not that hungry. I am also Latin so Lunch is usually a larger portion of my caloric intake. For dinner, I try to keep it low calorie...espcially if I am eating it after 7pm. I find that if I eat it after 7pm my weight jumps up.

Keeping Bag Lettuce Fresh
Man, I need to learn these tips. Usually, when we buy bagged lettuce I eat it that same day. I don't wait because it seems to last 2-3 days at most. I like getting the heads of lettuce because they last longer. I love lettuce and will eat more of it than any other veggie.

Dropping Sugar - Need Guidance Please
I went Cold turkey. I now drink water and avoid Soda/POP/Colas and fruit juices. Liquid calories are the easiest to avoid. Sticking with a Protein, veggies and fruit diet. I have avoided breads, pastas, rice and carbs as a whole. While the fruits provide natural sweetness and the veggies provide the fiber, I know that I don't need those starchy processed carb foods. As a replacement, look for STEVIA (Truvia). It is just as sweet.
