Post-menopause weight loss
Alisister, I have some 5 pound hand weights & some 5 pound ankle weights . . . should I use these while walking do you think??? Or just do some repetitions daily?? I've never done weight training before hmmm, let me look into this! Thanks, by the way. I need all the help I can get. The pain is something I've lived with for a long time . . . I try not to let it get in my way of healthy living!!!

Post-menopause weight loss
I'm in the same boat . . . recently completed natural menopause . . . now I must work hard to lose each ounce. I also have to work at it EVERY DAY. Exercise helps but I have arthritis of the knees so even walking hurts. This post is probably not much help for you but at least you know there are others out here working on the battle! I plan to not give up on this eating plan . . . just may have to keep tweaking it to keep the pounds coming off. I'll keep you posted!

fatsecret members' average weight loss
Did anyone notice . . . On the fatsecret home page there is a small graph entitled: [b]Fatsecret Members' Average Weight Loss[/b]? Apparently it's based on actual member weigh-ins. Well, the G.I. New kid on the block
Moselle, I too am losing very slowly . . . 2.5 pounds in 3 weeks. I tried for a pound a week but the weekends are killers for me. I refuse to give up . . . I really like this eating plan and I have so much more energy than I've had with other plans! As for protein, I eat mainly peanut butter, legumes (I love pea soup & lentil soup -- I make it in the crock pot), fish, chicken, and lots of ground turkey (I use this in place of ground beef in many recipes -- it makes a great chili). Low fat cheese is good also sprinkled in lasagna or over wheat pasta . . . protein is not one of my problems. My biggest problem is portion control. I try to make my food ahead and portion it out so that I don't overeat in one sitting. Thank you for requesting to be my buddy! Losing weight is always more fun when we can work as a team. Try some different forms of protein . . . do you like tofu? Don't give up . . . we can do this!;)

Help With Traveling
:evil: Next week I have to travel for work for 3 days. Does anyone have any good suggestions on what to bring along to help me stay focused on this eating plan? I'm following the G.I. Diet and I've been doing very well with it so far. I'll be traveling with 2 normal sized ladies . . . so I'd rather not call attention to the fact that I'm eating differently . . . if at all possible. That's actually what I like about this plan . . . as long as I watch my portions, I can eat a wide variety of foods and no one at work is the wiser. Any & All traveling diet suggestions welcome!:d

:d Moselle, I hope you made it thru the 2nd week! I'm beginning week four . . . and although I've only lost 2 pounds, I just FEEL so much better. I'm concentrating on getting more fruits & veggies into my diet and less meat & fat. I really don't care that much about sweets, but I keep a few healthy oatmeal cookies and peanut M+M's around just in case I get a weak moment. I have a few low GI recipes that I like but I need to find more legume recipes. Anyhow . . . I'm still out here trying! Keep up the good work . . . 8)

:d Hi, I started the GI diet on the 20th also . . . I seem to be losing about 1 pound per week. I submitted a recipe idea last Sunday but have yet to see it appear on the recipe section . . . It may have been too simple. Anyhow . . . one of my favorite desserts is to slice a cored pear or apple really thin, pan fry it in Pam until it's soft and golden brown, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with cinnamon & nutmeg & top with a dollop of frozen vanilla yogurt. It's really yummy! One of my favorite dinners is chow mein over basimati rice. I load the chow mein with loads of veggies and a little chicken > Then I portion it out in those cool little GLAD plastic containers and nuke one serving each night for supper. Quick, easy, and very filling. :badgrin:

Exercise tip
I purchased a small timer that you wear on your belt like a beeper but I set it to vibrate a signal to me every hour on the hour. Each hour [when the signal hits]I try to complete a few stretches, some deep breathing, 5 toning compressions, etc. On occasion I was at a meeting, or involved with others at work and could not stop and do my exercises . . . but all in all I think I got a little more exercise into my day than usual and I plan to try this again next week. Excerise [and making time for it] is really tough for me . . . so any way that I can find to make it more painless helps a lot.
