Don't get caught up in the myth that Atkins is all Fat and Protein. Those rumors are started by the people who don't like Atkins and never will, no matter how many studies prove Atkins is not only safe, but a very healthy life style. You should be eating lots of Green leafy veggies with your meals. At least a cup of Salad a day and green beans. Broccoli is good as well as cauliflower, and you can have real cheese on em. There are endless meal combinations and recipes that will get you through Induction. Also, Induction is designed to make your body go into Ketosis, which makes it convert from burning the Carbs your'e eating and start burning the available fat. Our bodies are made to store fat in times of plenty. Still the best source of Atkins information is http://www.atkins.com. One more thing. The main rule with Atkins is eat Fresh. Avoid packaged, pre-processed foods, especially cereals and low fat snacks. A good rule to apply is to shop only through the outside isle of the grocery store and avoid the middle isles. All of the good stuff is on the outer shelves.

I noticed that too a couple of days ago. It is very encouraging for those who have doubts.

Diet Coke~
If it's not Caffiene Free Diet Coke, then it does not matter if you drink coffe, tea, or Diet Coke. It's the Caffiene......Caffiene is a narcotic drug and the headaches from stopping Caffiene is a sypmton of withdrawal. It's takes approximately 3 days to break the addiction. I know, I been doing Atkins for a while and have terrible Caffiene addition. I just like it., So I give up something else. If you read the new Atkins information on their website, you will find that they now say, you can have caffeine if it does not bother you.

Odd Question
Mandie160 is right. If you read the Atkins Book he tells you that very thing, in [b]"The Rules of The Induction Diet" [/b] [b]"Rule # 3...[/b]You are, however on a qualitative diet. This means that if the food is not on your diet, you are to have absolutly none of it. Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of death on this diet." The allowed foods are listed on the Atkins web site and in his books.

atkins vs. south beach diet
sararay's response is one of the best explanations I've read. To be honest with you, I think Dr. Agatston was just trying to apease the main stream medical and nutritional institutions by allowing more of what he calls Good Carbs and asking you to cut back on the saturated fats. I like Dr. Atkins renegade style better. God rest his sole.

atkins vs. south beach diet
I've read both books. Phase 1 of South Beach is almost the same as Induction in Atkins. They both emphasize to cut the Carbs, mainly processed packaged foods such as sugar, bleached flour and starces. South Beach seperates carbs by bad carbs and good carbs. They both go into detail about the Glysemic Index and how to eat fresh foods with lots of fiber. They also warn about low fat diets, its the low fat diets that have caused the epidemic of obesity and Type II diabetics. Check out their web sites: There are links to both on this site.

Milk or Milkesq products
Have you tried taking Heavy Cream (which has zero Carbs) with just enough water to thin it out? Atkins allows Cream.

Are lemons ok for induction?
Technically, according to the book, you should avoid all fruits. He suggests flavored water (sugar free of course). It's always been ironic to me that though Atkins says no Fruit, he lists Tomatoes as an allowable food. Tomatoes are Fruit.

How to handle Atkins put downs?
I just ran across this journal post today but would like to add to the comments. I have tried Atkins off and on for the past several years and yes I got the same sort of comments. But you can let science be talk for you. There are tons of articles out there from independent groups now saying the same things Dr. Atkins was saying. It's as if they were to embarrased to admit he was right while he was alive. You've got to remember, alot of people believe what they hear from their Doctor's (Who are taught that nutrition is based on the old food pyrimid published by the Agriculture Department)It's like religion, people don't like to hear things that contridict what authority figures tell them, i.e. Doctors, Politicians, and the Preacher. Like I say several comments say, let the results speak for themselves, but don't be afraid to tell people the truth and feel confident you can back it up with facts.

15 Pound Christmas Challenge!
I guess I can join you. I may not be able to start until Friday though, but 15 pounds in 30 days should be doable on atkins. My profile picture has me at 240 lbs in October. I'm at 233 now. I'll post a new picture for Christmas.

A FUN TOPIC!!! Where do you notice your weight loss first???
Well, as a man about to turn 50, I can relate to the Mid Section (GUT) buldge. The first thing I notice as well as others, is in my face and Buttocks (code for boody). What happens in my Gut is the bloated part goes away, I feel so much better:p :p
