Depression and weight loss
Things have been really bad lately emotionally. I don't suffer from depression continually but more situational. This is the first time in several years I've had to deal with it. One of the main issues I've had is I've lost my motivation to work out. I did really good the first half of the year leading up to my sister's wedding but I haven't been able to get back on track since then. I have worked out very sporadically since then. On top of that on days when the depression gets really bad I find it very easy to validate bad food. Tonight it was pizza and cookies. Once in a while I'm ok with it but lately I'm having more bad days than good and therefore validating more bad food. I'm going to be starting anti depressants tomorrow. Hopefully that will start to turn things around. I'm going on Wellbutrin, which I've taken in the past with good results. I did some reading on it this time and I'm really hoping for the weight loss side effect. More than that though I'm hoping to stop wanting to cry all the time. I miss liking my life and being motivated to lose the last of this weight. I'm so close and yet it seems miles away right now.

Hello! New user...question....
Multiply your weight X 7. This total will be your total calorie intake for the day to lose weight.
I think this is good for people who have a lot of weight to lose but not for people who are close to their final goal. I have 13lbs to go and based on this method I should only eat 1000 calories per day. Everything I have ever been taught tells me it is dangerous to go below 1200/day for extended periods of time. By the time I reached my goal I would be down to 910 calories per day.

Looking for new program
I'm looking for a new workout program. I've done Jillian Michael's body revolution twice now. I enjoy it but I have trouble doing her cardio because it involves so much jumping. Jumping and my ankles do not go together. A friend gave me her copy of Tony Horton's Power 90. It doesn't seem to bother my ankles at all. Problem is I'm finding it kind of boring. I definitely do not see myself doing this for 90 days. I fear something like P90X or Insanity is too much for me (an my ankles) but I want something a little more interesting than the Power 90. Does anyone have a program they love and would recommend? I know there are tons of exercises I could do on my own but I really need the structure of a video program to stick with it.

Protein Sources
Canadian bacon, greek yogurt, eggs and beef jerky have been huge in helping get my protein up.

Maximising your treats...
I totally do this. I currently am allowing myself one Reese's sugar free mini peanut butter cup a night. Somehow I manage to get three bites out of one of those minis!

Fried Egg vs. Hard Boiled Sodium Content
Can anyone explain to me why a fried egg (without adding fat) would come up with more than double the sodium content than two hard boiled eggs? If I don't add anything to my fried eggs, shouldn't they be the same? :?

Calculate Calories on Homemade Beef Jerky
I'm going to try making my own beef jerky. I've been using it to boost my protein but the store bought stuff is full of sodium and expensive. My question is does anyone know how I would go about calculating the nutrition on something like this? I want to be able to count I like I do all my other food.

Jillian Michaels 30 day shred
I'm doing her Body Revolution and revolution is the word. I've found muscles I didn't even know I had. Only problem I have had is that she integrates quite a bit of jumping and apparently I have a week right ankle. Had to modify a lot of the exercises while I healed and I still struggle with ankle pain sometimes after the video.

What to eat
Try Canadian bacon and beef jerky for a protein boost. Oh and greek yogurt too, way more protein than regular yogurt. I have used all of these to boost my protein intake.

Protein vs. Sodium?
I find I do better if I eat at regular intervals. My main meals are at 10am, 1pm and 7pm. At 4pm I have a snack, usually greek yogurt and at 9pm I usually eat one serving of beef jerky (1 oz) and one sugar free Reese's peanut butter cup mini (cuz I miss chocolate). I dont graze, I plan snacks, and eat only the portion alotted. My understanding is its unhealthy to go much be much below 1200 calories per day and if I eliminate the snacks too I would be well below that. I dont get hungry thoughout the day eating this way and dont think I could bring myself to eat much more during my main meals. I guess I'm just wondering if I should continue concentrating on my protein or start paying more attention to my sodium intake. The protein has worked so far but I'm wondering if I would be seeing bigger loses if I lowered my sodium.

Protein vs. Sodium?
I do eat plenty of healthy meats but jerky is a very convenient snack loaded with protein. I started researching making it myself last night. It may be that's the way to go.

Protein vs. Sodium?
So I started out just worrying about calories. I am on a 1200 calorie per day diet and I'm able to eat plenty every day on that. I don't eat a lot of veggies so I mostly eat meat and whole grains (as you can see from my food diary). Then I started to concentrate on increasing my protein and lower my carbs. Not Atkins, just eating less carbs. My goal on a daily basis is to have my net carbs be less than or equal to my protein intake. One of the foods I added to increase my protein intake was beef jerky. One ounce gives me 15 grams of protein with only 5 grams of carbs. Seemed like a great food to me. But the beef jerky is pretty high in sodium. I'm reading that women should have less than 2300mg of sodium a day and if they want to lose weight they should have less than 1500mg a day. So I'm wondering whether I would be better off giving up the protein from the beef jerky and reducing my sodium or keeping the protein and not worrying so much about the sodium? I fully admit my diet is limited because I'm such a picky eater but I'm eating healthy in the best way I am able to and just trying to figure out what choices will give me the best results. I'm working out twice a day as well. Thirty minutes of biking in the morning and a thirty minute video in the evening so its not all about diet for me. I've lost 12.2lbs so far and just want to keep my forward momentum. Thoughts on protein vs. sodium?

So discouraged!
Got back on the bike this morning and did my 5+ miles. I'm still frustrated but I'm going to continue doing what I can with the videos. Hopefully I have a good weigh in tomorrow. I could use a win right now so hopefully the scale will be nice to me for once.

So discouraged!
When I hurt my ankle I added biking because it doesn't hurt and hopefully made up for some of the cardio I was losing in the body revolution program. I'm working out twice a day, biking in the morning and doing what I can of the Jillian Michaels videos in the evenings. When I started everyone was like "You can lose 30lbs in six months no problem!" Well here I am with only 3 months left and still 20 lbs to go. I've stuck to my diet, found new ways to add protein, without increasing my calories, reduced my carbs, only allow myself to drink one night per month. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. What more can I do? It is just so frustrating to finally be this motivated and have something as stupid as ankle pain constantly holding me back.

So discouraged!
When I started my weightloss journey back in January I decided to do the Jillian Michael's Body Revolution. Phase 1 when great and I really stuck with it 6 days a week like she recommends. Just as I was about to start Phase II I hurt my ankle. The doctor called it tendonitis and told me to modify my workouts until it felt better. It took more than a month for me to feel better so all of phase II was modified and I felt I was slacking because I wasnt giving it my all. I did add biking into my routine to get some of the cardio I was missing from the videos. I kept going with phase III in the modified version but as I started to feel better I added in more of the exercises that involved jumping. I had decided that starting next monday I was going to go back to the beginning and try to get through the whole program unmodified this time. So last night I'm doing the workout and feel my ankle start to bother me again! I'm days away from starting over and now I am in pain again! I'm so motivated to lose the weight but my freaking ankle keeps getting in the way of me really doing the program correctly! It took me two months to lose 10lbs! I only have three months left to hit my goal (another 20 lbs) before my sister's wedding. I'm just tired of my body being against me. I'm not extremely overweight so its not like I've abused my body for years putting massive pressure on my joints. The biggest I ever got was a size 10. All I wanted to do was prove to myself that I could do this program and lose the weight and apparently I cant! I just want to cry. :(

Calorie Breakdown Pie Chart
Really wish the calorie breakdown pie chart would show net carbs instead of total carbs!

Reducing Net Carbs with Fiber Supplement. Is it possible?
Does anyone know if I added some benefiber to my yogurt if it would reduce the net carbs (carbs minus fiber=net carbs) the same way it does when there is naturally occuring fiber in the food? I'm calorie counting and concentrating on increasing my protein and reducing (not eliminating) my carbs. This seems like it would work but I dont know enough about it to be sure. :?

I don't understand...
From Friday to today, I gained just over 6! I had a great weekend, enjoyed myself with food and liquor, and today its back to the grindstone. I know its a lot of water weight, and I guarentee you that by tomorrow morning, it will be down at least 4 pounds.
I hope you are right. I've been beating myself up and miserable all morning because after one weekend of partying with family I'm up 4 lbs, which is half of what I have lost so far. It was very discouraging and makes me want to quit but I'm trying hard not to.
What a cool idea! I love that you're going to see an old lover, how very black-and-white movie of you. I want an old lover in Ireland too :)
LOL, Well in fairness he was living here in the US when he was my lover but he is from Ireland. I'm hoping a visit will get him thinking about moving back to the US for a while, hehe.
