Alcohol
I'm not sure about carb free, but rum and coke is low, as well as Michelob Ultra beer (2.6 gram carbs and only 95 cal) that's what I prefer...I need to keep it simple! Red Wine is even less than the Michelob, I hear!

new report
interesting article information you shared. I recall reading that as well. I've seen several along similar lines recently in doing research on the low carb diet vs. a non-restrictive carb approach. I consider the study you mentioned, as proof that it can't be a bad idea! Thanks for posting that...for those that do not know of it's existance! Have a great day!

It's hard avoiding bread for the first week...after that, it's smooooooth sailing!! :) My advice is TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME, be patient, be KIND to yourself, and make lots of friends on here!! The people on here are GREAT!

Fat Fast
Sara, I really feel prompted to say something in response to your post. I hope you'll ignore it if you wish, as well. Although it's true that the fat fast was designed for those who were metabolically resistent, I do not recall reading that it was not ever meant for people who were so close to their weight goal. In fact, I haven't found any material to support that statement. The Atkins book states that it was designed for those people who were completely resistent to losing body fat, a long plateau or a stall, such as what I myself experience. Dr. Atkins also states that he considers it safe to utilize the fat-fast to jumpstart the weight loss process, for up to a week. Most people will not want to go longer than that, just out of sheer boredom with constricted food choices, but he does mention how a person who finds success on the FF, can intersperse a few carbs and continue to remain on the FF. A positive way to look at this would be that anyone who chose to properly follow the advice of Atkins while doing the short-lived fat fast, should experience some kind of jump start to their weight loss, and should consider it fairly safe. After the longest weight plateau of my life, I did the FF for 5 days and have finally been able to move the scale just a bit. However, I do not feel that I made an irrational decision simply because I had a smaller percentage of body fat to lose. I am not meaning to offend you AT ALL, believe me, but I have been watching the same Atkins buddies struggle just as much or more than myself with losing weight. Of course when they see progress is made by participating in the Fat Fast, they buzz about giving it a try! I don't believe that constitutes as getting "out of control", nor do I think it poses a threat to their current health.

well, your 'meal' fits in the palm of your hand. Think about all the things that you can have and make sure its a do-able diet, first! It's very easy...easier than Induction, as far as not feeling hungry...so that's a major advantage! :) I take it you already know how the meal plan works, so I won't load you with the details...just food ideas; 1 oz macadamia nuts 2 oz cream cheese macadamia nut butter with 2 oz cream cheese half oz heavy whipping cream 2 oz pate 2 egg yolks hard-boiled with tbsp of mayo 1 oz of tuna, chicken or salmon with tbsp of mayo Atkins lists several other things in the book that I wish I'd seen before now! darn it! :) This is what he says; * 2 oz sour cream, 1 sbsp caviar, served on 3 or 4 crisp fried pork rinds * 2 deviled egg halves, no whites, but on the pork rinds or thin slice of Atkins soy bread (recipe in the book) 2 oz of chicken salad made with triple amount of mayo (or ham salad, egg salad, shrimp salad) * 1 oz of the above in an avacado half * 2 1/2 oz of heavy whipping cream, artificially sweetened and add ground vanilla beans *and the book has recipes for chocolate truffles That's about all I can find. One other site mentioned that they ate weiners (all meat, no nitrate less than 1 g carb per serving) I found that Oscar Mayer carries weiners that fit that description. I ate those with mustard. Good luck my friend! Now that i'm all done with that FF, I am still not hungry even though I've incorporated like maybe 6-10 g of carbs back into my diet. Let me know if I can help you. If you don't have the book, I'll get the recipes and copy them down for you too! Hugs friend! *if you find that you're losing too fast or have feelings of 'crashing too fast', add an extra meal to your daily 1000 calories. Here are some of those choices; 2 oz beef chuck cooked in 2 tbsp of olive oil 2 scrambled eggs with 2 strips of nitrate-free bacon *** For those sweet tooth days; 2 tbsp of full-fat sour cream, cream cheese OR 1/2 oz heavy whipping cream (whipped) with tbsp of DaVinci syrup. I whipped up the HC, added 1 tbsp of cream cheese and then 1 tbsp of sugar free chocolate syrup! (now, that's good!)

I need help!!! please
There are other reasons for not losing on the Atkins Induction, besides the obvious dietary choices you may have made. There are several health issues that can interfere with your progress, diabetes, for one. Hormonal Replacement Therapy is notorious for stalling the weight loss progression, as well. Are you drinking enough water to help flush out your system, or are you taking any prescribed medications listed in the book, such as Prednisone (used to treat severe asthma), depression prescriptions, such as Prozac, Zoloft, lithium. Arthritis NSAID drugs, OR diuretics used to treat water retention or heart failure. Granted, Caged Liberty mentioned the most obvious reason for your weight loss stall, and if you are not taking prescription drugs of any kind, you should closely consider her advice. One other thing mentioned in the book that I also recall, was that your portions could be too big. The most severely metabolically resistant people cannot easily lose weight, therefore they have to stop eating when they first feel the feelings of being full (I'm still working on that). The best way to conquer that problem is to eat slowly, taking a break or two during your meal, even walking away from your food for a few minutes. I've learned other fine tuning techniques, as well as read other reasons for your hang up on losing weight so if you find that all this advice still does not apply to YOU, e-mail me and I'll dig up more juicy information for you! I suggest that you buy the Keto-Stix at Wal-Mart or your nearest pharmacy. It's the quickest way to find out if you're in the state of ketosis (burning stored fat). After the 3rd day of Induction, you should be showing ketones in your urine. If you are not, you will not make progress. I hope this has helped you a little bit. It's tough already, we don't need any obstacles like this, do we?! I'm sorry for your problems on the Atkins. Like I said, Feel free to write me if you need more help!

FEEL GREAT AND LOSE WEIGHT IN EIGHT PRECHALLENGE
Hey all! I'm Vickie, I've been a FS comedian since Oct 07'. My partner is a wonderful person who I admire very much! Her name is Mary Beth (aka MBHPRO), and she keeps me laughing as well focused! Between his/mine/ours, I have 5 kids (birthed 2 which was plenty!) they consist of 1 sargeant in Iraq, 3 college girls, and one great 15 year old teenager! I love them all to pieces! My hubby is a great man, (my better half and my best friend) who works as CFO for a few telephone companys, and we run 2 businesses of our own, a plant/tree nursery and our farm of vineyards. Hopefully this challenge will help Mary Beth, because Lord knows I don't need it! LOL :)

alli
I only recently heard about Alli, but after reading these testamonials, I don't think it will be worth the extra trouble. I rationalized it out, thinking that if you had to limit your intake of fat in order to keep from having bad experiences with Alli, then why couldn't you just avoid the fat and forget the Alli?? the benefit would be NO SIDE EFFECTS! Anyway, dieting usually means you limit your fat intake already!!!

I now understand THE BIGGEST LOSER not losing....
I agree about the slower loss of weight this year on BIGGEST LOSER. I'm wondering if just MAYBE in the past on that show, they tried to get faster but TEMPORARY results, such as "flushing" out the weight with drinks, supplements, etc. instead of a more permanent way to lose it.???

BIGGEST LOSER ANYONE? Start Wieghts are in! see post update!
I like this idea...it will certainly give me more incentive to try even harder! I don't see very many responses though...if i'm looking at it right. I LIKE the idea though. BUT...here's a road-block; what if people cheat? accountability would count here. well, COUNT me in!
