As far as I'm aware, chicken is basically a free food. It's 0 carbs so eat as much as you want. :) I'm sorry that you're sad and I hope that you feel better soon.

Christmas Decoration
In my family we always wait until the day after Thanksgiving but my boy-friend's family does it when ever they feel like it - so I think when ever it feels right to you to start decorating. :)

I'm going to be mindful of the diet and I'm not going to go over board on any thing. Thanksgiving falls with in my once every two week cheat too. But, I plan on having small amounts of things if I want them. I think it's mostly psychological. If I go in feeling deprived then I'll likely eat everything in sight.

Someone help! my husbands ruining my diet!!
There may be food allergies going on here. It isn't uncommon to crave the food that's poisoning you, at least, until you've detoxed from it. My boyfriend craved carbs and sugar for a few days longer than I did at first. The cravings were mostly done after 5 days. String cheese and sugar free jello seemed to help Jeff a lot in the first few days. I do think that it will be better really soon. :) *** edited to remove Atkins specific content ***

Type II Diabetes
This seems to come up anytime someone posts that they're doing [b]Atkin's[/b]. My best advice to you would be to get the Atkin's book written by Dr. Atkins and read that before you decide to commit or not commit to doing this. Sararay has several really good and informative posts about this diet that will probably help you a great deal. My Dr. is the person that suggested this diet and he has several patients that were able to go completely off of their insulin as a result of this diet. That's not every one, mind you - but several of them were able to. This is a really good post that you should definitely check out : And, as always, there are a lot of people doing really well on Atkin's here that are always willing to help. Best of luck to you! Atriel p.s. I also think that before you take any one's advice on any diet that you go check out their weight loss history. Do they have a history of yo-yo dieting? Have they switched diets several times? These are all things that I would take into consideration.

flaxseed oil?
I picked it up at a natural foods store in my area. They keep it stocked in a refrigerator. I also picked up some ground flaxseed there. The natural food store is a great place to pick up stevia as well. Stevia is a natural sweetener that I use instead of splenda for my coffee and tea.

New to Atkins
I can't stress enough how important it is to read the book written by Dr. Atkins about the Atkin's diet. I just finished reading it and I'm planning to do another two weeks on induction because I now understand why the diet works better. The really big thing that you should be aware of is that the point of the diet is to keep your blood sugar from rising so, it is really important to spread your carbs out through the day. Do not save them all up for dinner. Sararay has a really great post that you can find here: It's a jump start/ basic guidelines type of thing and it was a lot of help to me before I got the book.

Atkins Dieters Cheating
Thank you for posting this. My dietician recommended this diet to me to help me isolate and tackle my food addictions. I was a little bit dubious at first, it wasn't until I was 3 days into it that I realized exactly how addicted I am to sugar and carbohydrates. I feel that I'm finally getting a handle on those addictions because of this diet. But, my Dr. and dietician both stressed how dangerous it would be to not follow the diet exactly, especially during induction. Again, thank you for posting this.

Happy Halloween everyone! Thankfully, I don't have anyone to take trick or treating tonight. But the man thing and I are going to a Halloween party and the hostess is also on Atkins so I'm positive that there will be things that I can eat there. :)

Sararay's post that she linked you too is a really great way to jumpstart your diet. Do check that out. There are also some fantastic recipes for people on Atkins here. Browse the kitchen and check those out, they help a whole lot. Drink a lot of water. I'm not kidding THAT really helps. For me, the first 3 days were the hardest. I think it gets easier with time. It really has for me. And if you have any questions, there are a lot of people here actually doing Atkins and getting great results both in weight loss and over all health. I'm sure all of us would be more than happy to answer any questions that you have. Best of luck to you! :)

Heh. My boy friend and I are both doing Atkins. We've worked out a system of rewards that aren't food related at all. But, like CK - I don't really feel comfortable discussing this. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. ~blushing now~

Unhealthy dieting vs healthy eating - how do you get the right balance?
Hi everyone, I think that if you actually read about the Atkins diet you'll see that it is actually a very healthy eating style. Far too many people look at the induction period and think that's all there is to it. That isn't, by far, all there is to it. I think that if you take a look at my journal and see what I'm eating you'll see that instead of getting my carbs with breads and pasta, I'm getting it through vegetables. I never feel weak or tired - I am always full of energy and I'm eating more than I used to and losing weight. I think that alone is a pretty good endorsement. I am interested in losing weight but more than that, I want to be healthy. After researching several diets and speaking to both my physician and a friend that's a dietician, I decided on Atkins. I'm seeing my physician regularly and having blood work done once a month.

Hi Kelly, Welcome to fatsecret! The best advice that I could give is drink a lot of water. Water helps to flush the toxins that your body releases from stored fat, which will help with any fatigue or headaches that you may experience in the first few days. Also, get an accurate carb counter. Don't just go by what the nutrition labels say. I wish you all the best. :)
