Goal Weight decision ?
I also went with small goals so I don't get frustrated with 30 more pounds to go. I'm doing 10 pounds at a time until 40 pounds total are gone. I find that when it says 5 pounds to go i'm more motivated. Good luck.

Patience is a virtue
I weigh every morning before I get in the shower. but I only record it once a week on the same day. I like to see the fluctuations it keeps me motivated. plus if I THINK that I ate well the day before and the scale goes up, I know not to touch that food again. or make better choices. Good luck!

Balanced Diet *with cheat days!
I have one cheat day and I usually find that I don't eat that terrible on that day when i'm eating good 6 other days that week. I just don't track my food and I don't go overboard.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh almost every day but only track it once a week on the same day. I like to see the fluctuations sometimes or I mainly like to see it going down even if by only a few ounces

How long did you think it would take...
I'd say healthy and long term weight loss is good at about 5 pounds a month loss. That way it stays off for good. If you lose too much too quickly it'll creep back up on you.

What do you truly wish for yourself besides weight loss?
I have 2 boys ages 6 and 2. My wish is to be as active as they are.

#'s on the scale are just that
always take your measurements. sometimes that loss is bigger than the number on the scale.

Hello
Good luck! I'm also trying to get down to about 130 from the 170s but I found it's easier to set smaller goals at a time. so my first goal is 150. that way I don't get discouraged that it's so far away.

motivation
1. For the first week, eat everything you normally do and track it. this will show you where you need to cut out calories. 2. remember slow and steady is best. 3. don't try to do everything at once, don't beat yourself up for one bad day, tomorrow is a new day. 4. good luck and ask questions when you need help, there's tons on here.

lost 5 lbs in one week
usually within the first week it's all water weight that falls off easily. still a nice surprise but don't get discouraged if another 5 doesn't fall off the second week. although that would be nice huh.

When's the best time to weigh yourself?
I agree that it only matters that you do it the same time of day. for most people morning is best but sometimes people work late nights or overnights so it matters what time of day you feel "lightest". I've noticed sometimes that about 3pm is my best time.

weigh in
Good luck! I weigh in every day which has to stop. It is too easy to get caught up in the excitement of seeing the scale drop so much in a week-that is because of water weight I am sure.
