My experience is that when I add a modest "fat" in the morning - usually an egg and a teaspoon of butter... I'm good all day with holding to smaller portions, and I seem to see more results. ...

Quick reference for carbs
Pretty much one carb serving a day.. One sandwich, cup of rice, or other minor carb serving per day - max. for me... Then double down on veggies is how I approach it.
